Enhancing Corralejo’s Port: A Community Commitment to Excellence

In a recent excursion to the Corralejo port, significant figures from the Canarian government met to discuss ongoing improvements and future developments. Among those present were José Gilberto Moreno García, the Managing Director of Puertos Canarios; Lola García, the President of the Fuerteventura Cabildo; Isaí Blanco Marrero, the Mayor of La Oliva; and Juan Luis López Alonso, the Insular Director of Puertos Canarios in Fuerteventura. This gathering highlighted the collective effort to transform the port into a safer, more accessible, and aesthetically pleasing space for both locals and visitors.

Purpose of the Visit

The primary aim of this visit was to assess the current state of the renovation efforts at the port. The delegation reviewed completed works and discussed plans for upcoming phases. Central to their discussions was the commitment to enhance the public space with improved safety measures, increased accessibility, and visual integration into the surrounding environment. Among the topics discussed was the improvement of the espaldón, construction of accessible walkways, and the installation of new huts at the pier’s edge.

Project Overview and Financials

This ambitious project has a total budget of €726,621.61 (excluding IGIC), with an impressive execution rate of 51% to date. The completion date is projected for May 2026. This significant investment reflects a long-term vision for the port, aimed at not only maintaining but also upgrading its infrastructure for enhanced functionality and user experience.

Key Improvements

The ongoing renovations encompass several vital improvements:

  1. Pavement Renovation: The port’s pedestrian walkway will be revitalized with new tiles and finishing techniques designed to enhance durability and improve foot traffic.

  2. Safety Enhancements: New protective railings will be installed along the pier, significantly bolstering the safety of all port users.

  3. Espaldón Enhancements: Work includes the renovation and improvement of the espaldón, reinforcing its structure while also enhancing its visual appeal.

  4. Surface Treatments: High-traffic areas will receive slurry treatments to boost resistance to the marine environment, extending the life of the materials used.

  5. Lighting Improvements: The upgrade of public lighting will be executed with efficiency in mind, adhering to Starlight standards to minimize glare and environmental impact.

Additional Features

The renovation also includes essential maintenance on various port elements such as beacons, bollards, and other equipment. A new water reservoir with a capacity of 60 cubic meters will be installed to support ongoing operations.

Scope of the Work

Some technical highlights include the replacement of 622 linear meters of railing and an intervention covering approximately 2,441.34 square meters of pedestrian pavement. Additionally, the project entails the renewal of lighting fixtures and spotlights throughout the area, ensuring both functionality and a modern aesthetic.
