Fuertedélica Brings Global Experts Together to Discuss the Future of Psychedelic Therapy
On November 7 and 8, the vibrant town of Corralejo will host the fourth edition of Fuertedélica, an international congress that has solidified its status as a leading forum within the Spanish-speaking world on psychedelics and mental health.
Taking place at the Municipal Auditorium in Corralejo, this year’s meeting unfolds in a climate of intense scientific and regulatory debates concerning the future of these substances in medicine, as highlighted by the event’s organizers.
The theme for this edition, “The Varieties of the Psychedelic Experience,” structures the program around three essential phases defining any process involving entheogens: preparation, initiation, and integration.
Fuertedélica 2025 will feature a lineup of speakers that spans multiple disciplines, including psychiatry, clinical psychology, anthropology, law, journalism, and the arts.
Notable speakers include Dr. Joan Obiols, a pioneer in psychedelic psychiatry in Spain; neuroscientist Mendel Kaelen, founder of Wavepaths and researcher at Imperial College; and teacher Ronin Wesna, a guardian of Amazonian plant tradition.
Dr. José Carlos Bouso, a member of the organizing committee, emphasizes, “The psychedelic experience doesn’t end with the ‘trip’; what occurs before and after is equally crucial, and we want to delve deeply into this aspect this year.”
Fuertedélica is convening at a particularly significant time for psychedelic research. In 2024, the FDA in the United States rejected the approval of MDMA-assisted therapy for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), citing methodological shortcomings in clinical trials and demanding further evidence. This decision stalled the anticipation of imminent legalization but ignited a global debate on how psychedelic studies should be designed and evaluated.
The Fuertedélica Week will kick off on November 4 in Lajares with a breathing workshop and ice bath inspired by the Wim Hof method, designed to explore the connection between the nervous system and self-confidence. Beginning Wednesday, Corralejo will transform into the epicenter of various offerings, ranging from ceremonial journeys with local plants to voice activation practices and ritual circles of rapé and mapacho.
Thursday will host a wealth of educational opportunities; psychologist Karina Bertolotto will conduct an intensive session on somatic tools for psychedelic facilitators. The Synaptica Clinic will introduce participants to ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, led by experts including Joan Obiols and José Carlos Bouso. Additionally, the Eleusis Garden collective will present a workshop on applied mycology, teaching attendees about mushroom cultivation. This day promises a rich array of experiences, including a sound therapy journey for health.
Friday will continue the immersive experiences with ecstatic dance sessions in Corralejo—a liberating practice that encourages free movement, self-expression, and group connection. On Saturday, attendees will embark on an exclusive catamaran journey to Lobos Island, featuring aquatic activities and informal gatherings with speakers in a relaxed atmosphere, all while enjoying local culinary delights.
Wrapping up the week, Sunday will be dedicated to holistic well-being, with activities such as yoga, a sound journey, and a vegan brunch at 7LemonsHouse, followed by a workshop on conscious nutrition led by Marco Giglio. For those wishing to engage in the full experience, a global ticket provides access to all workshops throughout the week, excluding specialized educational activities and the Lobos excursion.
“The congress seeks not only to stimulate international discussion but also to establish Fuerteventura as a reference point in psychedelic research and culture. The economic and social impacts of previous editions have been notable, benefiting local hotels, restaurants, and businesses from the influx of specialized visitors,” stated the organizers.
