Revitalizing Corralejo’s Port: A Step Towards Modern Infrastructure
In a significant move aimed at enhancing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the Corralejo port, José Gilberto Moreno García, the Managing Director of Puertos Canarios, along with prominent local leaders, recently toured the site to assess the current state of remodel works. Joining him were Lola García, the President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura; Isaí Blanco Marrero, the Mayor of La Oliva; and Juan Luis López Alonso, the Insular Director of Puertos Canarios in Fuerteventura. This visit underscores the commitment of local authorities to improve maritime infrastructure for both the community and its numerous visitors.
Progress and Planning
During their visit, the officials closely examined the completed tasks and explored plans for the upcoming phases of the project. The primary aims include enhancing safety, improving accessibility, and ensuring high-quality public spaces. Additionally, the officials highlighted the importance of maintaining visual harmony within the luxurious coastal environment. Discussions revolved around upgrading the espaldón (backfill), constructing an accessible promenade, and installing kiosks along the waterfront.
Project Budget and Timeline
The renovation project at Corralejo holds a budget of €726,621.61 (excluding IGIC), reflecting a serious investment in the future of the port. Progress on the work is notably at 51%, with an anticipated completion date in May 2026. This timeline suggests an organized and forward-thinking approach to the logistical challenges associated with such a significant task.
Key Renovation Initiatives
The planned renovations entail a variety of vital enhancements. Notably, the existing pavement of the port promenade will be replaced with new tiles and finish treatments designed for durability and improved pedestrian traffic. Barriers along the waterfront will be updated to bolster safety for all port users, and the gradual enhancement of the espaldón will serve double duty by reinforcing structural protections while also improving visual appeal.
Importantly, the port will see the application of slurry treatment on high-traffic surfaces, which aims to boost resilience against the harsh marine environment. Enhancements will extend to public lighting, with a focus on energy efficiency and compliance with Starlight standards, minimizing glare and ecological disruption.
Comprehensive Maintenance and Infrastructure Upgrades
The series of interventions will further include maintenance of essential port elements such as beacons, bollards, and various equipment, ensuring they remain functional and safe for daily use. Notably, a new water deposit with a capacity of 60 cubic meters will be installed, significantly enhancing the port’s operational readiness.
Magnitude of the Improvements
This ambitious project will involve replacing 622 linear meters of railings and renovating approximately 2,441.34 square meters of pedestrian pavement. The introduction of new lighting fixtures and projectors aims to elevate the overall ambiance and functionality of the waterfront space.
The Vision for Safer, Sustainable Ports
Through these actions, Puertos Canarios is taking significant strides towards modernizing its infrastructure. The focus remains sharply on creating port spaces that not only cater to the needs of local residents but also enhance the experience for tourists. The wider objective aligns with sustainable development goals, presenting a forward-thinking approach to marine infrastructure.
