A Celebration of Sport and Flavor: The XI Ruta del Queso in Casillas del Ángel

Mark your calendars! On June 27, Casillas del Ángel will transform into a vibrant gathering place for athletes, families, and food aficionados during the much-anticipated XI Ruta del Queso. This unique event stands out in Fuerteventura’s sporting calendar by seamlessly blending sport, nature, local products, and community spirit.

Organizing Bodies Behind the Event

The XI Ruta del Queso is co-hosted by the Club Deportivo Terachi and the Asociación de Vecinos Buenos Amigos de Casillas del Ángel, with collaboration from the Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario. It also enjoys the vital support of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands. Their dedication to creating this event demonstrates their commitment to promoting physical activity and local culture.

Landscape and Heritage on Display

The official announcement of the event took place at the Mercado Agrario de la Biosfera, where organizers unveiled exciting new features of this year’s edition. The course will advance through some of the most picturesque rural landscapes in the municipality, highlighting the region’s rich natural, ethnographic, and livestock heritage. Participants and spectators alike will enjoy the stunning vistas that Fuerteventura has to offer.

Race Formats: A Challenge for Everyone

Athletes, whether seasoned or novice, will have choices suited to their levels of expertise. This year’s event features two mountain running races—covering 13 and 26 kilometers—both integrated into the popular Canarias K Series circuit. Additionally, for those who prefer a more leisurely pace, there will be a 14-kilometer hiking route along with traditional children’s races to engage the younger crowd.

Local Gastronomy Takes Center Stage

A significant highlight for this year’s edition is the emphasis on local cuisine. Iván Cerdeña, a representative from Club Deportivo Terachi, announces the participation of students from CIFP Morro Jable in crafting the tapas that will make up the event’s culinary offerings. This not only enhances the gastronomic appeal but also supports local culinary education.

Building Community Through Sports

Luis González, the Sports Advisor for the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, emphasized the Ruta del Queso’s established position within the island’s mountain race calendar. He credited the event’s continued success to its unique formula that harmonizes sport, nature, and local promotion. The consistent organizational improvements year after year only strengthen this beloved initiative.

Supporting Local Agriculture and Heritage

Enrique Pérez, the Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishing Advisor, highlighted the importance of this event for the primary sector. It plays an essential role in showcasing the lush rural environment and the long-standing livestock traditions of Casillas del Ángel. This promotion not only supports the local economy but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the region’s agricultural practices.

Family-Friendly Festivities

In addition to the sporting events, a gastronomic route focusing on cheese and local products will be offered. Attendees can look forward to the Terachi Music Fest, scheduled to kick off at 8 PM. With live performances from artists like Mejor con Copas, Laly Lean, and DJ Naupe, the evening promises to be a lively closure to the day’s activities.

To enhance family participation, a children’s play area will be open from 5 PM to 9 PM, ensuring that the festivities cater to attendees of all ages.

A Heartfelt Cause: Supporting Cancer Awareness

This year’s Ruta del Queso also embraces a charitable aspect by collaborating with the Asociación Contra el Cáncer de Mama Metastásico de Fuerteventura. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the organization’s vital work in raising awareness about the disease and providing support to patients and their families on the island.

An Invitation to Join in the Celebration

With a rich blend of sports, tradition, gastronomy, and a commitment to social causes, the XI Ruta del Queso promises to make Casillas del Ángel a focal point for popular sports and community interaction in Fuerteventura. Whether you’re an athlete, a food lover, or simply looking to enjoy a joyful day out, this event has something for everyone.
