Every year, the enchanting island of Fuerteventura comes alive with celebrations from September 18 to 21, honoring Nuestra Señora de La Peña, the beloved patroness of the island. This annual festival is a vibrant showcase of devotion, culinary delights, and rich traditions that resonate deeply with both locals and visitors alike.
The festivities were officially presented by the Insular Cabildo and the Betancuria City Council, unveiling a vibrant program designed to engage individuals of all ages. In addition to the festive excitement, García lauded the collaborative efforts of the Culture Department and other sectors, expressing gratitude toward the local municipalities and the tireless individuals who make the festival possible. Such teamwork underscores the importance of preserving cultural heritage and local customs.

The Cultural Councillor, Rayco León, elaborated on the program, promising a dynamic array of activities that will cater to everyone. From children’s events and musical performances to traditional sports, gastronomy, and folkloric encounters, the fiesta promises a fulfilling experience steeped in heritage. The blend of tradition and modernity will create moments that resonate deeply with participants and attendees.
Meanwhile, Enrique Cerdeña, the Mayor of Betancuria, conveyed his enthusiasm for welcoming visitors to the celebrations. He is committed to ensuring everything unfolds smoothly and peacefully, maintaining the serene atmosphere characteristic of the Peña and emphasizing collaboration across all island municipalities.
Representing the Diocese of the Canaries, Aday García conveyed the cornerstone of the spiritual activities prepared at the sanctuary, signifying the island’s dedication to the devotion of the Virgen de la Peña. These religious observances highlight the sacred significance of the event alongside its cultural festivities.
This year, the guest speaker will be Inma de Armas, who excitedly expressed her honor in being this year’s herald. She promised to share a compelling narrative that unites the entire island, illustrating its history and cultural connections extending from north to south, east to west.
