Iniciativa para poner en valor el patrimonio
On Saturday, April 11th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Plaza de Las Escuevas in Puerto del Rosario will transform into a vibrant hub of creativity and community engagement through an urban sketching event. This initiative, part of the project “Patrimonio Vivo: Fuerteventura a través de los Urban Sketchers,” is organized by the Asociación AnimArte and Urban Sketchers Fuerteventura, with the vital support of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. Under the inspiring motto “Lo que vemos, lo que somos, lo que dibujamos” (What we see, what we are, what we draw), the event aims to highlight and reclaim the rich heritage of the Cornisa area in the historic center.
A significant part of this project is the Cornisa del casco histórico, a collection of urban structures exemplary of the area’s rich cultural history. This site has raised concerns among locals regarding its preservation and future. By utilizing travel journals and the expressive strokes of urban sketchers, the initiative intends to elevate the act of drawing into a collective memory, emphasizing the importance of this living heritage. This practice not only fosters appreciation for the area but also invites the community to engage actively in safeguarding their cultural landmarks.

Participación abierta y divulgación histórica
One of the highlights of this gathering will be the presence of the historical communicator Aydan Woodward, who is popular on social media as @historyaydan. His engaging narrative style will offer attendees a historical reading of the plaza and surrounding areas. This connection between past and present enriches the sketching experience, as participants will gain a deeper understanding of the historical context of the places they are capturing on paper.
Aydan’s insights promise to add layers of meaning to each sketch created, transforming simple drawing into a bridge between generations and histories. By sharing stories from the past, he stimulates a dialogue that allows sketchers to explore their ancestry through their art, fostering pride and awareness of local heritage.
In this way, the event serves not only as a creative outlet but also as an educational platform. It engages with broader themes of cultural preservation and community identity, drawing in citizens from diverse backgrounds to partake together in the celebration of their shared environment.
Overall, the urban sketching event on April 11th is more than just an artistic gathering; it embodies a movement toward greater appreciation of historical assets and community participation. Through art, storytelling, and shared experiences, the organizers aim to inspire locals and visitors alike to recognize and embrace the intrinsic value of their cultural heritage in Fuerteventura.
