Puerto del Rosario to Welcome 75 New Protected Homes
Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, is set to receive an exciting boost in affordable housing. Following a provisional award by the Government of the Canary Islands’ Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility, a total of 75 new publicly promoted housing units are slated for construction. This initiative is part of a broader response to the urgent housing crisis faced in the Canary Islands.
Investment and Legislative Framework
The total investment for this ambitious project exceeds 12 million euros. This development aligns with the urgency outlined in Decree Law 1/2024, aimed specifically at addressing the housing emergency in the Canary Islands. By leveraging governmental resources, this legislative measure seeks to create viable solutions for the ever-increasing demand for housing in the region.
Housing Distribution: Urban Centers of Puerto del Rosario and El Matorral
The construction will be carried out in two key locations within the municipality.
47 Homes in Urban Puerto del Rosario
In the heart of Puerto del Rosario, the city center will see the development of 47 homes. These will be located between Don Quijote, Dulcinea, and Sorolla streets, and will also feature garages for residents. This project has been awarded to a consortium made up of Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas, S.A. and Obras Públicas Canarias, S.L., totaling an expenditure of 6.8 million euros.
28 Homes in El Matorral
Meanwhile, in the locality of El Matorral, another 28 housing units will be constructed. Situated between Bernegal, El Alpende, and Tabajoste streets, this part of the project has been entrusted to Citanias Obras y Servicios, S.L.U., with an allocated budget of 5.36 million euros. Together, these developments aim to create a more balanced and accessible living situation for residents.

Local Government’s Reaction
The Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the local government and the Canary Islands government. He highlighted the importance of streamlining processes to expedite the project, emphasizing that housing remains a top concern for residents.
