Enriching Cultural Horizons: The Launch of “Ruta del Jazz II”
Introduction to “Ruta del Jazz II”
In an exciting development for the cultural landscape of Fuerteventura, Enrique Thompson Music is thrilled to announce the initiation of the “Ruta del Jazz II” project. Kicking off on Monday, June 17, this initiative aims to infuse the island with the vibrant sounds of jazz and its related genres. By featuring a series of educational concerts and open classes, “Ruta del Jazz II” aspires to promote citizen participation in creative processes and provide access to enriching musical experiences across Fuerteventura.
The Essence of the Project
The primary goal of “Ruta del Jazz II” revolves around enriching the cultural panorama and making jazz more accessible, especially in areas that often lack such exposure. The program endeavors to foster a spirit of learning and active engagement in music, exploring facets such as improvisation, composition, and spontaneous creation. This large-scale initiative encourages community involvement, irrefutably contributing to the island’s artistic development.
Collaborative Efforts
The project is a collaboration between Enrique Thompson Music and the Asociación Casa Naturaleza Betancuria, Música, Arte, Cultura y Ecología. Additionally, a host of supporting entities — including the ICDC Gobierno de Canarias, Cultura Fuerteventura, and various municipalities such as Puerto del Rosario, La Oliva, Pájara, Antigua, Tuineje, and Betancuria — have come together for this ambitious venture. Such a multidisciplinary alliance underscores the significance of community and institutional support in fostering cultural initiatives.
Scheduled Events and Workshops
The inaugural event on June 17 featured a didactic concert held at the Casa de la Cultura in Puerto del Rosario. This concert was a collaborative effort with students from IES Puerto del Rosario and was open to the general public. Following this, several other events enhance the project’s dynamic schedule:

June 18: Another didactic concert at the Municipal Auditorium of Corralejo, featuring students from IES Corralejo.
-
Workshops: On June 18 at 7:00 PM, Lionel Haas will conduct a jazz piano workshop at the Escuela de Música Insular Plaza del Centenario. The following day, Daryl Taylor will lead a jazz bass workshop at the same venue, continuing the emphasis on hands-on musical education.
-
Concerts: Additional didactic concerts are planned, including one at the Sala Polivalente de la Estación de Guaguas in Morro Jable on June 20, which will include the participation of students from the Pájara music school.
