Pájara’s Debut at FITUR: Celebrating Diversity and Natural Beauty

The picturesque municipality of Pájara has made a remarkable debut this year at the 44th International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid with its very own stand in the LGTBI+ pavilion. This event, taking place this week, marks an exciting milestone for Pájara as it showcases its unique attractions and commitment to inclusivity within the tourism sector.

A Stand Dedicated to Diversity and Natural Wonders

Located in Pavilion 9 of the FITUR LGBT+ zone, the Pájara stand aims to highlight the municipality’s stunning landscapes and various tourist offerings. Visitors can look forward to notable events like the upcoming Jandía Pride in May, celebrating diversity and inclusivity in the vibrant town of Morro Jable. Additionally, Pájara promotes the World Windsurf & Wingfoil Championship, the popular nightlife tent, and the cultural week events at Playa de la Cebada, along with the IV Open International Copa Santander for adapted paddle tennis.

Representation and Collaboration

Pájara’s presence at FITUR is enhanced by its active involvement in the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC). This networking opportunity not only amplifies Pájara’s visibility but also emphasizes its commitment to collaborative tourism initiatives. The local government was well represented during the fair by key figures including Mayor Alejandro Jorge, First Deputy Mayor Alexis Alonso, and the Councilor of Tourism, Tina da Silva, among others. Their participation highlights the unity and strength of the local government in promoting Pájara as a prime travel destination.

Voices Celebrating Pájara

The opening of the standalone stand has been met with enthusiasm from municipal representatives. They expressed that this initiative marks a significant achievement in showcasing the uniqueness and natural beauty of Pájara. The representatives are committed to enhancing the reputation of Pájara as a vibrant and welcoming destination, particularly for the LGTBI+ community. This event stands as testament to their dedication to sustainable tourism and diversity.

An Engaging Agenda

Throughout the week, Pájara’s delegation is set to engage in various activities designed to promote their locality. Notable personalities from the arts and sports sectors have also shown interest in visiting the stand, including renowned choreographer Poty Castillo, actress Charo Reina, former basketball player Fernando Romay, and Drag Shiky, the champion of the 2023 Drag Queen Gala in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Their presence not only enriches the event but also reinforces the importance of cultural representation in tourism.

Promoting Natural Attractions

On the first day of FITUR, Pájara introduced its essential guides aimed at enhancing visitor experience. The Beach Guide and the Guide to Natural and Protected Spaces serve as valuable resources, encouraging both locals and tourists to explore Pájara’s beautiful landscapes more thoughtfully. These guides are a testament to the municipality’s commitment to helping everyone discover the breathtaking natural charms of the region.

Upcoming Highlights

Exciting events are planned for the rest of the fair, including the presentation titled “Pájaram: sun, sand, and pride, you decide,” scheduled for Thursday in the LGBTQ+ pavilion. On Saturday, Drag Shiky will dazzle attendees with a special performance, promoting the inviting beaches of Jandía.

A Grand Stage for Tourism

FITUR 2024 is expecting to host around 9,000 businesses and organizations, showcasing 96 official representations from a total of 152 countries. With an anticipated attendance of approximately 250,000 people—comprised of 150,000 industry professionals and 100,000 general public visitors over the weekend—this event is poised to be a pivotal moment for the tourism sector.

As Pájara navigates this vibrant tourism landscape, the municipality’s dedication to inclusivity and sustainable practices echoes through its lively participation at one of the most significant tourism fairs in the world.
