Puerto del Rosario Welcomes Two Erasmus Groups from Germany and Slovenia for a Week Focused on Innovation, Sustainability, and Canary Island Culture

This week, the City Council of Puerto del Rosario opened its doors to two dynamic groups of students participating in Erasmus programs from Germany and Slovenia. This initiative brings together education, innovation, sustainability, and a deep appreciation for the cultural heritage of Fuerteventura, creating a vibrant exchange experience.

The first group hails from Laporje, a quaint village in Slovenia, consisting of six students and two teachers. These learners, currently in their third year of secondary education (3º de ESO), engage in a project focused on the future of work. Additionally, they are part of an eTwinning initiative that connects them with local students and a German group. The exchange is set to continue in June, when the students from Fuerteventura will visit Germany, further enriching their cross-cultural relationships.

On the other hand, Puerto del Rosario is also welcoming a group of 14 students and two teachers from Dresden, Germany. This group, made up of fourth-year secondary students (4º de ESO), is studying Spanish and has a packed schedule of educational and cultural activities designed to enhance their language skills while immersing them in the local culture.

Throughout their stay, both groups will explore various sites across the island that relate to innovation, entrepreneurship, and new work paradigms. Planned activities include a talk organized by the City Council, focused on tourism and innovation, along with visits to CIFP Majada Marcial to learn about its robotics project, the Fuerteventura Technology Park, and experiences emphasizing coworking and remote work.

In a demonstration of their commitment to environmental sustainability, the German group will participate in a beach cleanup event, collecting microplastics alongside local organizations Limpiaventura and Avanfuer. This initiative highlights the students’ interest in preserving the natural environment and embodies the spirit of collective responsibility.

David de Vera, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, emphasized the importance of such exchanges, stating, “These types of programs create enriching experiences for both visiting students and our own youth. They position Puerto del Rosario as a place where education, innovation, and coexistence go hand in hand.” This sentiment underscores the significance of fostering international dialogue among young minds.

Toñi Fernández Aragón, the Councilor of Education, shared her perspective, noting, “Erasmus programs represent a fantastic opportunity to promote values such as cooperation, tolerance, and shared learning. Students not only practice languages but also explore new realities and forge enduring connections.” This highlights how these programs go beyond mere academic engagement, nurturing interpersonal development.

Rosa Rodríguez, the Councilor of Tourism, added, “Welcoming students from other countries also offers us a chance to showcase the most authentic and approachable image of Puerto del Rosario and Fuerteventura.” Her remarks point to the broader benefits of such exchanges in enhancing cultural visibility and promoting tourism.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the participating students will also delve into the island’s traditions through the project No olvides lo nuestro. They will have opportunities to engage in aquatic activities and enjoy cultural visits, including museums and the Artisan Fair, creating a holistic educational experience that is closely tied to the territory.
