The Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival is set to make waves once again on July 3rd and 4th at the beautiful Playa de la Concha in Cotillo. This significant event isn’t just an ordinary music festival; it marks its 20th edition since inception in 2004, evolving into one of the hallmark cultural celebrations in both Fuerteventura and the wider Canary Islands.
This year’s festival presentation brought together key figures such as Lola García, the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura; Isaí Blanco, the mayor of La Oliva; Rayco León, the cultural counselor; and David Hernández, the councilor for culture. Their presence underscores the importance of FEM in enhancing the cultural landscape of the islands.
Emphasizing the significance of this milestone, President Lola García announced that the festival will honor its founder, Dania Dévora, who has returned to assume artistic direction for this special 20th edition. Sadly, she passed away on March 25, 2026, leaving her son, Sergio Miró, to take over the artistic reins along with the festival team.
“Dania always had a clear vision for FEM: multiculturalism, environmental consciousness, sustainability, and the blending of cultures through music, all underscored by respect for our natural surroundings,” noted García. This ethos remains the cornerstone of the festival, fostering a unique identity that sets FEM apart from other festivals.
During the tribute, words from Dania Dévora resonated deeply. She reflected, “Celebrating twenty years of Fuerteventura en Música is not simply an act of looking back; it is about taking on the challenge of affirming our unique identity in a landscape where many festivals share a similar face.” Dévora’s commitment to maintain the festival’s uniqueness is palpable, as she strives to reinterpret trends without losing sight of its storied history.
Mayor Isaí Blanco highlighted how FEM transforms El Cotillo into a cultural hotspot, attracting artists from various countries and captivating both locals and visitors alike. He emphasized the festival’s dual focus: providing exceptional music and raising awareness of the natural environment surrounding the Playa de La Concha, fostering a connection between art and place.
In a celebratory mood, Cultural Counselor Rayco León stated, “These twenty editions of a festival nurtured by Dania’s vision underscore culture as a catalyst for societal change and environmental advocacy, cultivating a distinct spirit. Everything is in place for a grand celebration of this anniversary.”
Sergio Miró encapsulated his mother’s excitement about reaching this milestone, recalling her joy in bringing the festival from a dream to reality—a remarkable journey shared with the team since its first edition.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura along with the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva warmly invite everyone to partake in the experience of Fuerteventura en Música, while underscoring the vital importance of environmental stewardship. Their gratitude extends to all individuals and organizations, including Cotillo Joven, that contribute to the festival’s diverse programming.
FEM 2026 boasts an impressive lineup that includes both national and international artists such as Antonio Carmona, Femi Kuti & The Positive Power, Eskorzo, Pongo, La Sra. Tomasa, Queralt Lahoz, Kumbia Boruka, and Chanela Clicka. Additionally, local talents like Marta Umpiérrez and the project Arife will take to the stage, alongside the DJ set from Woodhands.
