Revitalization of Villaverde’s Playground: A Town’s Commitment to Community Spaces

The Ayuntamiento de La Oliva has been hard at work enhancing the quality of life for its residents, focusing particularly on family-friendly spaces. One of the standout projects recently completed is the complete renovation and expansion of the Villaverde Playground, a cherished hub for local families and children.

Recent Enhancements

Mayor Isaí Blanco, along with Councilors Rubén González (Parks and Gardens) and Oliver González (Works and Services), recently visited the playground to finalize essential details. This impressive update to Villaverde Playground involved a substantial investment of €68,000. The new features include an extensive bike circuit, outdoor gym equipment, shaded areas, updated lighting, and safety cushioning across the play surfaces. These enhancements reflect the town’s dedication to creating safe and engaging environments for children and their families to enjoy.

Listening to Local Voices

In a community-centered approach, Mayor Isaí Blanco emphasized the importance of listening to resident feedback regarding public spaces. “We continue with our plan to renew all parks in the municipality after hearing the needs of residents in each area,” he stated. This commitment to community engagement ensures that developments are aligned with the desires and requirements of local families. The Villaverde Playground is already the third site to undergo significant renovations, following successful upgrades at El Cotillo and the Tenencia de Alcaldía of Corralejo.

A Multidimensional Space

Villaverde Playground now boasts an array of features that transform it from merely a playground into a versatile community space. Councilor Oliver González shared that the collaborative efforts of the Parks and Gardens and Works and Services departments have made the park a more welcoming and secure facility for all users. The renovation includes not only new play equipment but also six outdoor gym machines, providing residents the opportunity to exercise while overseeing their children at play.

Moreover, a dedicated bike zone, complete with wooden ramps, elevated paths, and balance challenges, has been meticulously designed to encourage active play among children of different ages and skill levels. This inclusivity also extends to children with disabilities, as recent installations include play elements designed to accommodate their needs.

Future Developments Across the Region

As the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva continues its mission of rejuvenating parks throughout the municipality, there are exciting developments on the horizon for other neighborhoods. Councilor Rubén González outlined the two primary initiatives of their ongoing efforts: comprehensive renovations of existing parks and essential maintenance of older facilities.

The next phases include the introduction of new parks in places like Lajares and La Caldereta—a long-standing demand from residents in these areas. Additionally, significant investments are planned for the Urbanización Parque Natural and La Capellanía parks, which are in urgent need of repair, with anticipated costs nearing €120,000 each. The necessity for public bidding on these larger projects may slow down timelines, but it also guarantees that the results will be parks that meet contemporary standards.

Continued Maintenance Efforts

Aside from new installations, the Ayuntamiento is also committed to maintaining existing parks. The Parks and Gardens department is currently engaged in maintenance work, focusing on painting and repairing various parks, including those in Tindaya, Vallebrón, and Corralejo. This dual approach—developing new spaces while caring for existing ones—ensures that every community has access to clean, safe, and enjoyable recreational options.

In summary, the renovation of the Villaverde Playground is just one step in an ambitious, community-driven plan aimed at revitalizing public spaces throughout La Oliva. With a focus on safety, inclusiveness, and engagement with residents, the Ayuntamiento is setting a benchmark for future improvements in public parks across the region.
