Visiting Lobos Island Will Require a Permit Starting Next Tuesday

New Access Regulations for Islote de Lobos: What You Need to Know

As part of efforts to preserve and manage the natural beauty of Fuerteventura’s Islote de Lobos, the local government has announced new regulations regarding visitor access. Starting from January 15, obtaining a permit will be mandatory for anyone wishing to explore this stunning natural park.

The Permit Application Process

Visitors can conveniently apply for their permits online. The applications can be submitted through the official website set up for this purpose or through the environmental department of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s website. The ease of this online system aims to streamline the process for visitors, making it both efficient and user-friendly.

Visitor Capacity Limitations

One of the key aspects of the new regulations is the capacity limit imposed on the Islote de Lobos. According to the Park Management Plan, the maximum number of simultaneous visitors allowed at any one time is set at 200. This limit ensures that the delicate ecosystem of the island can be preserved while allowing visitors to enjoy its serene beauty without over-crowding.

Governor’s Commitment to Preservation

Marcial Morales, the President of the Cabildo, emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations. He stated that such measures are vital for reconciling the enjoyment of the natural space with its preservation. The balance between allowing people to experience the park and protecting its ecological integrity is a priority for the government.

Provisional Trial Period

To ensure the new system functions smoothly, a provisional trial period will be in effect until January 30. During this phase, the authorities aim to address any minor issues that may arise within the system. This trial period allows for adjustments, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors once the permanent regulations are implemented.

Key Details of the Permit System

Visitors are allowed to obtain their permits only three days in advance of their planned visits. Furthermore, they can request permits for a maximum of three individuals per application, within their preferred time slots. The visitation schedule includes two distinct time frames: morning visits from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and afternoon visits from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a limit of 200 visitors for each time slot.

When applying for permits, visitors will be required to provide personal identification data such as name, surname, and either a DNI or passport number, as well as the selected date and time for their visit.

Downloading and Presenting Your Permit

After successfully entering their information and requested number of permits, users will receive a link to download their authorization. This confirmation will also be sent directly to their email. The validation of these permits will be conducted on-site by staff at the Islote de Lobos National Park, ensuring that regulations are followed.

Permits can be presented either as a printed document or in electronic form via a QR code on mobile devices, making it accessible for all types of visitors.

Consequences of Non-compliance

It’s crucial for visitors to understand that failing to obtain the appropriate permit or exceeding the time limit can result in penalties. Compliance with these regulations is not just a formal requirement but a commitment to helping maintain the natural beauty of Islote de Lobos for all to enjoy.

Permit Cancellation Made Easy

The Cabildo has also made provisions for visitors needing to cancel their permits. There is a dedicated online platform where users can easily request cancellations, ensuring they have full control over their planned visits.

Fuerteventura is a gem of nature, and the new permit system aims to safeguard its treasures while allowing the public to revel in its splendor. With these measures in place, visitors can look forward to a more structured and enjoyable experience on the breathtaking Islote de Lobos.
