H10 Hotels: Leading the Charge in Sustainability
H10 Hotels has made remarkable strides in its Sustainability Programme, aptly named Stay Green, as it moves towards its ambitious goals for 2025. This initiative is not just a marketing gimmick; it reflects a genuine commitment to reducing the carbon footprint, implementing renewable energy projects, and enhancing operational efficiencies across its establishments.
A Roadmap to 2030
Since its inception in 2021, H10 Hotels has laid out a comprehensive roadmap that focuses on four key areas: reducing carbon emissions, managing water sustainably, promoting responsible consumption, and fostering social participation. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that sustainability is woven into every aspect of the company’s operations.
Reduction of the Carbon Footprint
One of the cornerstones of H10 Hotels’ sustainability efforts is the significant reduction of its carbon footprint. For the fourth consecutive year, the company has renewed its CO₂ Conformity Certificate, awarded by AENOR, which validates its carbon footprint calculations in line with the GHG Protocol methodology.
In 2025, the emissions per stay have been reduced to 3.82 kg of CO₂, marking a 10% decrease from 2024 and a staggering 60% reduction from 2010 levels. This achievement is largely attributed to the procurement of electricity from renewable sources, positioning H10 Hotels among the industry leaders with one of the lowest carbon footprints.
Renewable Energy Initiatives
In 2025, H10 Hotels has installed 9,500 solar panels across 13 establishments, including two resorts in the Dominican Republic and 11 hotels in the Canary Islands. These installations boast a total capacity of 5,650 kWp, covering an area equivalent to nine football fields and generating enough clean energy to power nearly 3,000 households annually.
These solar panels are projected to supply 15% of the electricity consumed in these hotels, with some locations achieving up to 30% self-consumption. Additionally, half of the chain’s hotels utilize solar or geothermal systems, and all new constructions or refurbishments since 2015 have integrated low-impact technologies such as aerothermal and biomass energy.
Sustainable Water Management
Water conservation is another critical focus for H10 Hotels. The company has implemented a series of measures to optimize water usage, including modernizing irrigation systems and utilizing native plants that require less water. As a result, water consumption per stay has decreased by 7% compared to 2024 and by 19% since 2010.
Promoting Responsible Consumption
H10 Hotels is also committed to responsible consumption practices aimed at minimizing environmental impact. The chain has taken significant steps to eliminate single-use plastics, reducing its consumption by 68 tonnes annually. Guests are now offered reusable water bottles that can be refilled at over 250 water filtration stations throughout the hotels.
In terms of food waste, the company has introduced several initiatives to curb overproduction and losses in its food and beverage outlets. These include more efficient tableware formats, staff training, and the use of Artificial Intelligence systems like Winnow. Thanks to these efforts, food waste has been reduced by 16% annually, translating to over 300 tonnes of organic waste saved.
Social Commitment
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is deeply embedded in H10 Hotels’ philosophy. The company has been actively involved with the Fundació Albert since 2016, supporting children and families at risk of social exclusion. Through collaborations with organizations like Cáritas and Hospital HM Nens de Barcelona, H10 Hotels has positively impacted the lives of over 1,000 children and 100 families.
The chain also partners with various local non-profits to support initiatives in developing countries. For instance, its collaboration with the Fundació Guné has empowered nearly 2,000 women in Senegal through literacy and health training, while promoting the education of their daughters.
Moreover, H10 Hotels has contributed over €350,000 to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, supporting its Hospital Amic programme, which enhances the emotional well-being of hospitalized children through dog-assisted interventions.
Looking Ahead: 2030 Objectives
As part of its sustainability strategy, H10 Hotels aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% from 2021 to 2030. The company also targets a 20% reduction in water consumption and a 25% decrease in waste generation during the same period.
On the social front, H10 Hotels is committed to continuing its support for local communities and fostering a positive corporate culture that emphasizes learning, professional development, and the well-being of its employees and partners.
Through these initiatives, H10 Hotels is not just setting a benchmark for sustainability in the hospitality industry; it is also inspiring others to follow suit, proving that responsible business practices can go hand in hand with exceptional guest experiences.
