Consultation Center in La Vega de Río Palmas Reopens After Renovation

### The Reopening of Vega de Río Palma Health Center

On June 18, the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Health Services Management of Fuerteventura, proudly announced the reopening of the Vega de Río Palma Health Center located in the picturesque town of Betancuria. This much-anticipated occasion comes in the wake of comprehensive renovations aimed at enhancing the facility for its users.

The renovation works, which began in November, were executed by the local municipality of Betancuria and have focused on several key infrastructure improvements. The upgrades included internal and external sanitation of ceilings and walls, waterproofing of the roofs, reinforcement of pillars, and a thorough repainting of the entire building. These enhancements ensure a more functional and welcoming environment for both patients and healthcare providers.

### Services Offered at the Health Center

The Vega de Río Palma Health Center is not only a hallmark of community health but also a vital service point for its local residents. Currently, it provides consultations in Family and Community Medicine, as well as nursing services. With a patient base of 95 users, this center plays a crucial role within the Basic Health Zone (ZBS) of Puerto del Rosario, which is home to several other health centers, including Puerto del Rosario I and II, along with local consultancies in Valle de Santa Inés and Betancuria.

The commitment to ensuring quality healthcare is evident as the health management expressed their gratitude to users and health professionals for their understanding during the renovation period. During this time, patient services were temporarily relocated to other nearby health centers to maintain continuous access to medical care for the local population.

### Advancements in Healthcare Infrastructure

In addition to the renovations at Vega de Río Palma, there are exciting developments across other health facilities in Fuerteventura. Health Councillor Esther Monzón reported significant progress in various healthcare infrastructure projects during a recent session at the Canary Parliament.

One noteworthy project is the upgrade and expansion of the Gran Tarajal Health Center in Tuineje. An updated Functional Plan is set to allow the facility’s expansion to reach 4,762 square meters, paving the way for the inclusion of new healthcare areas, such as Mental Health and Physiotherapy. This expansion is vital in meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community.

### New Construction Projects Announced

Also on the horizon is the construction of the new Corralejo II Dunas Health Center. Official contracts for this much-awaited project were signed in May, and the new center will offer a spacious build of 3,500 square meters, all situated on a single floor to ensure ease of access. This strategic planning is aimed at creating a friendly environment for all patients, particularly those with mobility issues.

Further improvements are underway, including the review of plans to expand the local consultancy in Costa Calma within the Pájara municipality. There are also plans for a new urgent care point in the Antigua Health Center, stemming from a request for land by the local council.

Last but not least, the project for the Local Consultancy of Matorral and renovations for the Morro Jable Health Center will soon be advertised for bidding, indicating a sustained commitment to enhancing healthcare services throughout the region.

### Community Impact

The revitalization of these healthcare facilities is a testament to the health authorities’ commitment to improving public health infrastructure. These developments not only demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing the healthcare needs of Fuerteventura’s residents but also solidify the foundation for a healthier community.

Each of these projects reflects an understanding of the evolving needs of the population and a determination to provide quality healthcare access, something that will greatly benefit the island’s residents for years to come.
