This particular period introduced him to key figures in the local sport of lucha canaria, such as Roberto Martín (‘El Trota’) and Perico Sánchez, adding depth to his early experiences as a sports journalist.

His mentor, Susín Ciprés, who was preparing to leave the island, encouraged Brito to take over the correspondent role for El Eco de Canarias.
