The Unstoppable Rise of Siroko: A Musical Journey on Fuerteventura
In the vibrant world of music, unexpected connections can lead to remarkable collaborations. Such is the case with Federico, an Argentine bassist who relocated to Fuerteventura nearly two years ago. His arrival at a festival in Costa Calma was initially intended for leisure, but fate had other plans. After jumping in to play the drums as a guest with another band, a mutual friend alerted him to Siroko’s need for a bassist. “I came to work in another field, but if I found musicians to play with, that would be even better. And in the end, I find myself playing almost daily with them,” he shared during a recent interview.
Similarly, Javier, the band’s guitarist, joined Siroko about a year ago under equally serendipitous circumstances. A last-minute call from Pablo drew him into the fold when a band member fell ill just before a performance in Tindaya. Since then, he has seamlessly integrated into the group.
Pablo: A Two-Decade Journey on Stage
At the helm of Siroko is Pablo, the lead vocalist and guitarist. He took his first steps onto the stage at the age of 17, and with 38 years under his belt, he brings over two decades of experience to the band. His initial venture into singing came out of necessity when he had to fill in for a missing vocalist, and he discovered a passion for it. “One day a singer was absent, and I had to step in, and I just found that I liked it,” he recounted.
What keeps him motivated is the vibrant interaction with the audience. “I love to see people get excited, come together, and interact. That drives me while I’m on stage,” Pablo enthused. Connecting with the crowd isn’t just a part of performing—it’s an essential element that propels him and the band forward.
Dani: The Drummer’s Passionate Journey
Dani, the drummer, picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time at nearly 20 years of age, although he had been strumming a guitar informally prior. For over a decade, he played as a hobby before finally making the leap to perform with a band. He cites John Bonham of Led Zeppelin and the drummer of Foo Fighters among his musical inspirations. As Federico steps into this new family-like formation, he emphasizes the camaraderie that exists within the group. “We always go together, we’re always together. In the end, we’re more than just a band; we’re family,” Pablo affirmed.
Summer 2026: A Season of High-Profile Performances
The summer of 2026 has proven to be the most intense period in Siroko’s trajectory. Among their recent highlights is an electrifying performance at the inauguration of Rafa Nadal’s hotel in Fuerteventura. This high-profile event attracted numerous prominent personalities. “It was attended by many high-status individuals,” Pablo recalled, as Federico humorously added that one surprising takeaway from the night was realizing that the tennis star is “tall in person,” something that doesn’t quite translate on-screen.
The coming days don’t offer the band any respite. On August 7, they have scheduled three performances in a single day. The following day, August 8, they will head over to Gran Canaria. Their gigs outside Fuerteventura are coordinated by Calufa Producciones, with whom they have already completed four trips to Las Palmas.
