Canarian Weekly – FRIDAY WEATHER: Calima and Near 40°C Temperatures Expected Across the Canary Islands

Scorching Weather in the Canary Islands: A Detailed Forecast

The Canary Islands, a sun-soaked paradise off the northwest coast of Africa, are bracing for a blistering day today, July 31, 2026. According to the latest forecasts from AEMET (Agencia Estatal de Meteorología), residents and visitors alike can expect calima, clear skies, and soaring temperatures that could reach up to 39°C in parts of Gran Canaria.

Heat Warnings Across the Archipelago

Heat warnings are currently in effect across much of the Canary Islands. With temperatures anticipated to hit 35°C in various regions, Gran Canaria is expected to bear the brunt of the heat. Tenerife, La Gomera, and Fuerteventura are also forecasted to experience mid-30s temperatures, making it essential for everyone to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.

Wind and Sea Conditions

In addition to the high temperatures, moderate north-easterly winds are expected to sweep across the islands. These winds may strengthen at times, particularly on the southeastern and northwestern slopes of the mountainous islands. In areas like southern Lanzarote and southern Jandía in Fuerteventura, isolated very strong gusts could occur during the early hours.

For those venturing out to sea, AEMET predicts north to north-easterly winds of Force 4 to 6, leading to moderate to rough seas. A north-easterly swell of one to two meters is also expected, so caution is advised for maritime activities.
