Piyush Goyal to Lead Business Delegation to Spain, Belgium, and Finland

New Delhi, July 12 — In a significant move to strengthen India’s economic ties with Europe, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to lead a high-level business delegation on a five-day visit to Spain, Belgium, and Finland from July 13 to 17. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, innovation, and sustainability, reflecting India’s commitment to deepening its global economic engagement.

Objectives of the Delegation

The primary goal of this delegation is to foster business-to-business partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration with European industries. The delegation will comprise leading Indian companies from diverse sectors, including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, gems and jewellery, food processing, healthcare, and design. This diverse representation underscores India’s multifaceted approach to international trade and investment.

Spain: A Focus on Strategic Sectors

The journey will commence in Spain on July 13, where Goyal will participate in a business roundtable organized in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, CEOE, and ICEX Spain Trade & Investment. The discussions are expected to revolve around key sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, food processing, and tourism.

This visit is particularly timely as India and Spain celebrate the Spain-India Dual Year 2026, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations. Several Spanish companies, including Iberdrola, Acciona, CAF, Talgo, Gestamp, and Indra, have established a robust presence in India. Conversely, Indian technology and engineering firms like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Larsen & Toubro are expanding their operations in Spain, contributing to the digital transformation and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Belgium: Insights into Logistics and Technology

Following Spain, the delegation will head to Belgium on July 14 and 15. Here, Goyal plans to visit the Port of Antwerp, Europe’s leading logistics hub, to gain insights into multimodal connectivity, green logistics, and resilient supply chains. This visit is crucial for understanding how India can enhance its logistics capabilities and integrate more effectively into global supply chains.

In Belgium, Goyal will also hold CEO-level meetings with senior executives from Thales Group and Silox Group. These discussions will likely focus on technological advancements and potential collaborations in sectors critical to both nations.

Additionally, Goyal will participate in the India-EU Business Roundtable and the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Plenary. These platforms will facilitate discussions on foreign direct investment, trade facilitation, sustainable technologies, and resilient supply chains, all of which are vital for fostering a robust economic partnership between India and the European Union.

Finland: Emphasizing Digitalization and Sustainability

The final leg of the tour will take the delegation to Finland on July 16 and 17. Goyal will engage with Finnish companies during the India-Finland Business Roundtable, focusing on sectors such as digitalization, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and the circular economy. Finland is known for its innovative approaches to sustainability and technology, making it an ideal partner for India as it seeks to enhance its capabilities in these areas.

Conclusion

Piyush Goyal’s upcoming visit to Spain, Belgium, and Finland represents a strategic effort to deepen India’s economic ties with Europe. By engaging with key industry leaders and exploring collaborative opportunities across various sectors, this delegation aims to pave the way for enhanced trade and investment relations, ultimately contributing to India’s economic growth and global standing.
