An Exciting Blend of Sport, Nature, and Sustainability: Las Calderas Trail
This Saturday, November 22, the stunning locale of Los Lajares will host the third edition of the Las Calderas Trail, an event that beautifully encapsulates the essence of outdoor sporting events while promoting environmental consciousness. Organized by the Club Deportivo Obstáculos La Oliva in collaboration with the La Oliva Town Council, this trail run aims to foster a harmonious relationship between sport and nature.
A Unique Natural Setting
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Calderón Hondo, the Las Calderas Trail offers participants a rare opportunity to experience nature at its finest. The organizers emphasize a commitment to environmental stewardship, ensuring that the event not only showcases athleticism but also respects and preserves the pristine surroundings. This focus on sustainability is evident in all aspects of the event, from pre-race preparations to post-event clean-up efforts.
Event Details: Three Exciting Distances
Runners can choose from three distinct race formats, catering to various levels of fitness and experience. The first option is the Calderón Extreme, a challenging 16 km course designed for seasoned trail runners. Then there’s the Mini Calderón, measuring 10 km, perfect for those looking to enjoy a competitive yet approachable run. For those who wish to experience the beauty of the landscape at a more leisurely pace, there’s a 7 km hiking option.
Additionally, there are special races for the youngest participants, featuring three distances of 900, 600, and 300 meters. These children’s races will commence at 12:00, allowing young athletes to share in the excitement and camaraderie of this community-oriented event.
A Festival Atmosphere
Participants and spectators can look forward to more than just races. The festival atmosphere promises lively entertainment, including music and community spirit. Attendees will also have the chance to sample local cuisine, celebrating the “kilometer zero” concept, which prioritizes locally sourced ingredients to support the region’s economy and enhance the culinary experience.
Leadership Voices
Highlighting the significance of the event, La Oliva’s Mayor, Isaí Blanco, stated, “Las Calderas Trail once again proves that the combination of sport and environment is not only possible but thriving.” He encourages residents to come out and enjoy this unique experience that combines sporting excellence with local culture and environmental awareness.
Gleiber Carreño, the Councillor for Sports, chimed in on the event’s potential: “We continue to support this well-rounded race that encompasses the best of our municipality—the sport, our unique landscapes like those surrounding Calderón Hondo, and our local gastronomy. We invite everyone to join us this Saturday for a day of wholesome enjoyment.”
Environmental Consciousness in Action
The event’s environmental commitment extends beyond just words. David Fajardo, the Councillor for the Environment, shared exciting sustainability initiatives accompanying the trail run. Following the race, efforts will be made to clean up the Calderón Hondo region in collaboration with participants and locals. This year also features a new La Milagrosa Environmental Route, including an 8 km hiking option and a 12 km biking route. These initiatives aim to collect waste and preserve the natural beauty of the area while encouraging community involvement in environmental preservation.
Encouraging Active Lifestyles and Local Traditions
The La Oliva Town Council’s initiatives underscore a broad approach to promoting physical fitness and celebrating local customs. By showcasing the area’s unique produce, the council emphasizes a commitment not only to sports but also to a sustainable lifestyle and nourishing local traditions. Through events like the Las Calderas Trail, they inspire both residents and visitors to engage with the natural world, build community ties, and cultivate a spirit of environmental stewardship.
As excitement builds for this year’s Las Calderas Trail, participants and the local community alike are gearing up to celebrate sport, nature, and a shared commitment to sustainability in one of the most cherished natural landscapes of La Oliva.
