The Spectacular Closure of the 2025 Corralejo International Kite Festival
The 2025 Corralejo International Kite Festival has concluded on a high note, solidifying its reputation as a unique event in Europe. This festival not only dazzles attendees with its visual spectacle but also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability and respect for the natural environment.
A Grand Finale in an Unmatched Natural Setting
The 38th edition of the festival left unforgettable impressions at the Dunes of Corralejo Natural Park. Thousands of visitors gathered to witness the sky transformed by kites of various sizes, designs, and colors. Over the course of nearly a week, the program expertly blended exhibitions and activities that emphasized environmental protection and engagement with audiences of all ages.
Favorable Weather Enhancing the Experience
Participants were fortunate with the weather conditions, enjoying stable winds, sunshine, and temperatures reminiscent of spring, rather than the typical chill of November. These ideal conditions allowed over 200 kite flyers from across Europe to showcase their skills in both static and acrobatic flying, turning the coastal environment into a mesmerizing visual display.
Family-Friendly Activities and Nighttime Highlights
Beyond the thrill of kite flying, the festival offered a robust lineup of family-friendly activities. Educational workshops, environmental tours, and competitions provided attendees with opportunities to engage with the local ecosystem. The nocturnal programming was particularly appealing, featuring concerts and the iconic drone show held in Corralejo Bay. This year, the display dazzled with over 300 drones lighting up the night sky, drawing full crowds on both Friday and Saturday.
The Growing International Significance
Raúl Rivero, the festival promoter, celebrated the event’s escalating success: “We are very satisfied with this edition’s results. The public has responded enthusiastically, and the beach was bustling from day to day.” He highlighted the festival’s expanding international significance, stating that kite flyers now mark the festival dates on their calendars: “Corralejo has become a reference throughout Europe and is among the most important events worldwide.”
Thrilling Final Performances
The closing moments of the festival featured a stunning display of acrobatic kites, captivating the audience with their coordination and precision. The highly anticipated Rokaku kite combat added an element of excitement, where participants engaged in a spirited competition to knock down each other’s kites with skillful maneuvers. Following this thrilling conclusion, the award ceremony capped off a festival that is already looking forward to its next edition, when the skies of Fuerteventura will once again be filled with color.
Support and Organization
The event was organized by the Tourism Department of the La Oliva City Council, with support from the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias and its brand, “Islas Canarias, Latitud de Vida.” Collaboration came from Binter and RIU Hotels & Resorts, ensuring the festival’s success and appealing atmosphere.
The Corralejo International Kite Festival continues to be a testament to creativity, environmental awareness, and the joy of community celebration, setting a high standard for kite festivals around the globe.
