The Official College of Architects of Fuerteventura (COAF) has inaugurated the Urban Planning Conference, a meeting that will bring together professionals and specialists until March 27 to analyze key issues related to territorial planning and urban development on the island. The conferences are held at the Fuerteventura Training and Congress Palace, organized by the COAF and sponsored by the Fuerteventura Town Council, through the Territorial Planning area, directed by Nereida Calero, as well as by the Puerto del Rosario City Council. The insular Minister of Territorial Planning, Nereida Calero, highlighted the importance of this training space that for several weeks will allow fundamental issues for professionals in the sector to be addressed. According to him, these sessions contribute to updating knowledge and improving the training of those who work in the field of urban planning. For his part, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, highlighted the value of these sessions to promote the exchange of knowledge between professionals and technicians of the public administration. In this sense, he indicated that urban planning instruments are key elements that mark the future development of municipalities and islands. During the opening ceremony, the treasurer of the College of Architects of Fuerteventura, Javier Gutiérrez, welcomed the participants and thanked the sponsoring institutions for their collaboration, as well as the participation of the different invited experts. During the first weekend, the fundamentals of urban planning are analyzed, with presentations by the architect doctor Jesús Álvarez, as well as the environmental evaluation of partial plans, presented by the geographer and professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Feliciano Tavío. The next block of sessions, scheduled for March 20 and 21, will focus on instruments for the development of urban planning. These sessions will feature the participation of Mercedes Contreras, secretary of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and president of ACADUR, and the technical architect of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jesús Luna. The cycle will conclude on March 27 with a session dedicated to the legal foundations of urban planning, taught by the senior technician of the Public Administration and professor at the University of La Laguna, Eduardo Risueño. With this initiative, the Official College of Architects of Fuerteventura seeks to encourage debate and reflection on the current challenges of territorial planning, at a time when territorial planning and sustainable development are among the main challenges for the future of the island.
