The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports, led by Poli Suárez, has officially awarded the contract for drafting the project for the new Early Childhood and Primary Education Center (CEIP) in El Cotillo, located in the municipality of La Oliva, Fuerteventura. This marks a significant step forward in the long-anticipated construction of an educational facility that has been sought after for years by the local educational community.

The contract, valued at over €110,000 and set to be completed within four months, aims to lay out the framework for this future educational institution. The center is designed in response to the increasing population and educational demands in the area over recent years. It will encompass thirteen educational units—one for early childhood education, three for the second cycle, and nine for primary education. Additionally, it will feature a dedicated space for students requiring specific educational support.

This initiative intends to replace the current modular classrooms, providing the town with a modern, accessible school that meets contemporary pedagogical needs. The new facility will include appropriately sized educational spaces that are conducive to innovative teaching methodologies and enhanced conditions for the entire educational community.

In highlighting the importance of this project, Iván G. Carro, the Director General of Infrastructure and Equipment, emphasized that “with this award, we continue making strides in a much-anticipated project for the families of El Cotillo and its entire educational community, which has long advocated for adequate facilities to accommodate the area’s growth.”

Carro further elaborated that “the drafting of this project will allow us to define a modern and accessible center that will replace the current temporary facilities, providing students with much more suitable spaces for learning and interaction.”

Infrastructure Development Plan

The improvements to CEIP El Cotillo are part of the Strategic Plan for Educational Infrastructure from 2024 to 2035, initiated by the Ministry. This extensive plan includes around fifty initiatives across the entire archipelago, amounting to a total investment of €235 million. For Fuerteventura specifically, it incorporates several projects geared toward modernizing and expanding the public network of educational institutions, along with adapting facilities to the island’s demographic changes, all aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning experience for students.

Noteworthy projects included in this initiative for the island comprise the completed transformation of CEIP El Ciervo into the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) Morro Jable and the expansions of Tarajalejo, Francisco Navarro Artiles, and Gran Tarajal primary schools, as well as the CIFP Majada Marcial.
