La Playa de la Concha de El Cotillo is set to transform into a vibrant hub of music and culture as it prepares to host the 18th edition of Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) on July 5 and 6, 2024. This much-anticipated festival promises to bring together an eclectic mix of international, national, and local artists, offering a unique musical experience against the stunning backdrop of Fuerteventura’s picturesque coast.
Festival Highlights and Artist Lineup
With concerts commencing at 8:00 PM on both days, attendees can look forward to a diverse lineup that showcases a variety of music genres. The festival will feature performances from ten talented performers, including the flamenco and funk fusion of Granada’s La Plazuela, the captivating vocals of Navarre’s Iseo & Dodosound, and the reggae vibes from Barcelona’s Green Valley. Local favorites Supawayah will also grace the stage, alongside the Brazilian band Francisco El Hombre, known for their promise in the Latin American music scene.
The Voices Behind the Scenes
In a recent press conference, Lola García, the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, expressed her excitement, stating that everything is “ready to welcome the summer with a festival that has been a cornerstone of our cultural landscape for twenty years.” She highlighted the festival’s mission to foster a meeting point for music and various cultures while showcasing local talent. The collaboration with the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva is intended to ensure that attendees can enjoy the music and atmosphere while respecting the environment.
Joining García, La Oliva’s mayor, Isaí Blanco, invited the public to attend what he considers one of the most significant festivals in all of the Canary Islands, emphasizing its role in revitalizing the economy of both La Oliva and El Cotillo.
A Community Effort
The extensive preparations for the festival are the result of a collaborative effort involving local officials, cultural organizations, and dedicated volunteers. Insular councilor Rayco León noted the hard work that has gone into recreating the spirit of FEM, which is synonymous with summer on the island.
Among those present during the preparatory visits were David Hernández, the cultural councilor, and Luzma Hierro from the cultural association Cotillo Joven. The artistic director of the festival, Semi Gil, was also in attendance, alongside various artists scheduled to perform, creating an atmosphere of optimism and camaraderie.
Daytime Festivities and Cultural Activities
Beyond the evening concerts, the festival will include a diverse program of activities throughout the day. These daytime events aim to enrich the cultural fabric of El Cotillo, making it a lively destination for both locals and visitors. The complete daytime program can be found on the official FEM website here.
Special Transport Services
To facilitate easy access to the festival, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has instituted a special bus service. This initiative is part of an effort to bolster attendance and make the festival accessible to everyone interested in participating. More details about this service can be found here.
