Civil Guard Probes Woman in Gran Canaria for Real Estate Fraud Against Homeowner

As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, recent events in nearby Gran Canaria highlight the importance of thorough due diligence in property transactions.

The Civil Guard in Agüimes, Gran Canaria, has launched an investigation into a woman suspected of committing ongoing fraud against a property owner in Arinaga. The investigation follows a report by the victim, who claimed that the alleged perpetrator misrepresented herself as an employee of a commercial real estate management firm. Under this guise, she allegedly managed the rental of the victim’s property, collecting monthly rental payments and a deposit without ever forwarding the funds to the rightful owner.

The financial repercussions for the victim amount to €2,400, attributable to missing rental payments and an unpaid deposit.

The investigation utilized technological tracking, focusing on the tenant listed in the rental contract, who unfortunately left for another country, complicating the case’s progress. Despite this setback, the Civil Guard persisted in identifying the suspect, who was initially known only by her first name. After multiple inquiries to telecom operators, a new contact number linked to her was uncovered.

On January 12, 2026, this effort led to the confirmation of her identity, revealing an extensive criminal history. Consequently, all findings have been submitted to the Investigative Court Number 1 of Telde for further legal proceedings.

This case serves as a reminder of the necessity for vigilance when engaging in property investments, particularly in tourist destinations like Fuerteventura.
