James McMaster, Huel’s CEO, emphasized the alignment between Huel and Danone’s missions. Both companies are certified B Corps, dedicated to delivering convenient, nutritionally complete products while minimizing their environmental impact. McMaster stated, “With Danone’s infrastructure and global distribution network, we will be able to reach new markets, scale more efficiently, and maintain momentum behind our mission.” This partnership is expected to enhance Huel’s ability to innovate and expand its reach.

Impressive Growth Trajectory

Under McMaster’s leadership, Huel has experienced remarkable growth. When he joined nearly nine years ago, the goal was to establish an internationally recognized brand generating over £100 million in revenue. That target has been surpassed, with Huel reporting £214 million in revenue for the year ending July 2024 and projections to exceed £250 million for fiscal 2025, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This impressive trajectory underscores the increasing consumer demand for health-focused nutrition.

Rising Demand for Functional Nutrition

The acquisition of Huel by Danone reflects a broader trend in the functional nutrition space. There is a growing consumer appetite for products that offer specific health benefits, with UK purchases of functional drinks rising by 13% year-on-year, according to Worldpanel data.
