The enchanting island of Fuerteventura recently played host to a vibrant spectacle, the 37th International Kite Festival of Corralejo, which wrapped up with great fanfare. According to a press release from the organizing corporation, this year’s festival was marked by an “unprecedented success,” drawing visitors from near and far to experience a kaleidoscope of color against the backdrop of the island’s stunning landscapes.
A Colorful Extravaganza
Over the course of nearly a week, the skies over the Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo transformed into a magnificent tapestry of flying kites. With around 80,000 visitors flocking to partake in various festivities, the festival reached unprecedented heights. Each day featured spectacular exhibitions showcasing nearly 1,000 kites, captivating the crowd with their intricate designs and choreography.

The final day of the festival culminated at the breathtaking Grand Beaches, where the much-anticipated Rokaku kite battles took center stage. As the battles concluded, a trophy ceremony was held, graced by the presence of David Fajardo, the Councilman for Tourism and Environment of La Oliva, who celebrated the accomplishments of the participants and the festival itself.

The International Kite Festival of Corralejo wouldn’t be possible without the concerted efforts of various organizations. Organized by the Tourism Council of La Oliva, the festival received vital support from the Tourism Council of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Canarias, funded by the REACT EU fund. Collaborations with local businesses, including Binter and RIU Hotels and Resorts, further showcased community commitment to promoting this extraordinary event.
