  • This past Saturday witnessed the latest edition of the Memorial Carmelo Hernández “Vuelta a Lobos” for Cruisers. This regatta serves as a qualifier for the final of the Canary Islands Championship of Cruisers, set to take place in June. A total of six vessels navigated the 25 nautical miles stretch that connects Lanzarote to the Island of Lobos in Fuerteventura. The Antigua Craiova, captained by Ye Cabrera, emerged victorious.

The six participating vessels set sail on Saturday morning, facing a north-northwest wind gusting up to 25 knots near the Island of Lobos. The Sorondongo VI, helmed by Miguel Ángel Armas, was the first to finish the challenging course, clocking a time of 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 39 seconds.

In the final standings with compensated times, the winner of the Memorial Carmelo Hernández “Vuelta a Lobos” 2026 was the Antigua Craiova of Ye Cabrera, closely followed by the Sorondongo IV of Miguel Ángel Armas in second place, and the Manitu of Pedro J. Rodríguez taking home third place.

Breaking down the results by groups, in Group A, the top three spots saw the Antigua Craiova, Sorondongo VI, and Salite of Felipe Brito, while in Group B, the Manitu reigned supreme, trailed by the Pionene of Miguel Pérez and the Altamar I of Francisco Curbelo rounding off the podium in third.

The Memorial Carmelo Hernández “Vuelta a Lobos” acts as a selection regatta for the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura region, paving the way for contenders to secure a place in the finals of the Championship of the Canary Islands for Cruisers. The classification will be finalized in two weeks during the Regatta to La Graciosa, where the five boats advancing to the regional cruise competition in June will be decided.

Following the race, the event sponsor, Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, hosted a delightful lunch for all sailors on the Island of Lobos. The ceremony also featured trophy presentations for the Memorial Carmelo Hernández “Vuelta a Lobos” 2026. The trophies have been uniquely crafted by the renowned local sculptor, Bonilla, adding a touch of artistic flair to this competitive event.
