Vaani Kapoor Attributes Sustainability Conversations to Gen Z; Shares Eco-Friendly Initiatives from Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui Set: “People Are More Aware These Days”

Vaani Kapoor Champions Sustainability in Bollywood at the IAA Olive Crown Awards 2026

On April 8, 2026, the vibrant city of Mumbai played host to the IAA Olive Crown Awards, an event dedicated to recognizing excellence in sustainability-focused advertising. Among the notable attendees was actor Vaani Kapoor, who engaged in a thought-provoking conversation with Neeraj Roy, Managing Director of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment. Their discussion centered around the growing environmental consciousness within the film industry, particularly among the younger generation.

A Shift in Attitudes Towards Sustainability

During her interaction, Kapoor emphasized the evolving attitudes towards sustainability, attributing much of this shift to the younger generations, particularly Gen Z. “I think we are all at a very individual level and are very aware. People are very woke these days,” she remarked. Kapoor highlighted how Gen Z is not only more cautious but also actively channels their energy into meaningful causes that resonate with the broader community. This acknowledgment of youth activism underscores a significant cultural shift within the industry, where sustainability is becoming a priority rather than an afterthought.

Eco-Conscious Practices on Set

Reflecting on her recent project, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Kapoor shared insights into the eco-friendly measures implemented during filming. She recalled how producer Pragya Kapoor championed sustainable practices on set. “I remember we were shooting for a Holi sequence song, and because we had color all over, we had to take a cut and for all the retakes, we had to follow continuity,” she explained. The production team was mindful of their resources, using minimal one-use plastics and ensuring that everything was sustainable.

Kapoor noted that the pandemic heightened their awareness of waste management. “The people were taking extra measures, and because we were in the midst of a pandemic, it made us all the more cautious in terms of using everything very cautiously and smartly,” she added. This proactive approach not only minimized waste but also fostered a culture of responsibility among the crew.

The Challenges of Large Productions

While Kapoor praised the efforts made on her film set, she acknowledged the logistical challenges that larger productions face when it comes to sustainability. “I don’t think it’s just about a film set. It’s the intent behind how somebody can be,” she stated. The sheer scale of film productions often leads to significant waste, making it difficult to enforce sustainable practices across all crew members. Kapoor emphasized the importance of individual responsibility, suggesting that everyone in the industry should take it upon themselves to be mindful of their actions.

Intent and Collective Responsibility

Kapoor’s perspective on sustainability extends beyond mere practices; she believes it’s about intent and the small steps individuals can take. “We don’t have to go around preaching to everybody. I think everybody in today’s day and age is very smart and capable of understanding the importance of where we are headed as a world,” she remarked. This sentiment reflects a growing awareness that sustainability is not just a trend but a necessary shift in how we live and work.

She concluded her thoughts by emphasizing that sustainability is a collective effort shaped by consistent everyday choices. “It’s a reminder to ourselves more than to anybody else how we can take those simple small steps and eventually contribute to the bigger impact,” she said.

Recognition and Future Endeavors

The IAA Olive Crown Awards not only celebrated sustainability in advertising but also recognized Kapoor as the Green Ambassador for communication. This accolade underscores her commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices within the industry and beyond.

As the conversation around sustainability continues to grow, Vaani Kapoor stands out as a voice advocating for change, inspiring both her peers and fans to consider their impact on the environment. Her insights reflect a broader movement within Bollywood, where the intersection of creativity and responsibility is increasingly becoming a focal point for future projects.
