Enhancing Water Supply in Fuerteventura: A Closer Look at the Morro Francisco Pumping Station
In a significant move towards improving the water supply in the northern regions of Fuerteventura, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has rolled out a robust investment of €2.7 million. This project introduces the Morro Francisco pumping station, designed to enhance the hydraulic capacity of the island’s water supply system.
Strategic Location Benefits
Located in the scenic area of Corralejo, the Morro Francisco infrastructure plays a pivotal role in transforming water delivery to several local communities. Notably, residents of Lajares, Majanicho, El Roque, and El Cotillo will experience direct benefits from this initiative. With this new facility, the Cabildo aims to ensure a smoother and more reliable water supply to these areas, which previously faced uncertainties in water accessibility.
Reducing Dependency
One of the key objectives of the Morro Francisco station is to decentralize the existing water supply network’s reliance on the Puerto del Rosario system. This approach not only alleviates pressure on the central supply but also strengthens the functionality of the Corralejo desalination station. Equipped with a production capacity of 5,000 cubic meters daily, this station can generate an impressive annual total of 1,825,000 cubic meters of desalinated water. The collaboration between these two networks ensures a more balanced distribution of water across the municipality of La Oliva.

Adargoma Hernández, the Cabildo’s Water Commissioner, emphasized that these advancements are crucial for achieving a more efficient and higher-quality water supply. The overall goal is to optimize the services rendered to the community, making water accessibility both reliable and enduring.
