The Restoration of Betancuria: Revitalizing a Historical Treasure

The historical village of Betancuria has recently concluded an impressive restoration project that has revitalized the façades along some of its busiest streets. This initiative, backed by the Tourism and Employment Council of the Government of the Canary Islands, amounted to a total investment of €117,701. It falls under the grant program titled “Pueblos más bonitos de España en Canarias,” aimed at enhancing the beauty and cultural heritage of select villages across the archipelago.

The Aesthetic Revival of Betancuria’s Historic Casco

The restoration works have played a crucial role in recovering the aesthetic integrity of the historic center of Betancuria. By enhancing the urban image of the municipality, the project not only beautifies the area but also fortifies its cultural heritage. Betancuria, a village steeped in history, has benefitted from a meticulous approach to restoration, focusing on maintaining its unique character.

In-Depth Analysis for Authentic Restoration

Before commencing the restoration, a comprehensive study was conducted to assess the existing conditions of the façades. This analysis involved the removal of multiple layers of paint on several buildings, allowing for the identification of original colors that have traditionally adorned these historic structures. Shades of indigo and various tones derived from garnet have been restored, offering a glimpse into the village’s architectural past.

Collaborative efforts like this ensure that Betancuria continues to maintain its charm as a historical destination while adapting to the needs of modern tourism.
