Doramas Santana Triumphs with Two Awards in the Competition

The first Morphological Competition of the Majorero Donkey took place during the 38th edition of Feaga, showcasing the remarkable qualities of several exceptional specimens from this native breed. Among the stars of the day was the male donkey Tofio, hailing from Tiscamanita and owned by the esteemed Doramas Santana. Tofio impressively clinched the first prize after a rigorous morphological assessment, highlighting the premium features that define this unique breed.

In the female category, the award went to the admirable donkey Niebla, owned by Francisco Bordón from Villaverde. Notably, the second prize in this category was awarded to Jandía, another impressive specimen owned by Doramas Santana. This remarkable achievement demonstrated the quality of his livestock, securing two out of the three awards presented in this inaugural competition.

Thorough Evaluation of Morphological Characteristics

The competition was expertly organized with the support of the Association for the Conservation and Promotion of the Majorero Donkey. The judges undertook an in-depth morphological evaluation of each donkey presented, considering various distinguishing characteristics of the breed. Among the criteria assessed were the crucial band on the back, the so-called “cruzaditas” on the legs, and the overall height of the animals.

This meticulous approach to evaluation not only highlights the importance of maintaining the breed’s unique traits but also underscores the deep cultural heritage associated with the Majorero donkey. Each of these characteristics contributes to the overall impression and functionality of the donkeys, ensuring that only the best specimens receive recognition.

Events like this competition are critical for fostering pride and interest in local breeds. They act as a platform for educating both participants and audiences about the significance of preserving indigenous livestock. By celebrating the achievements of breeders like Doramas Santana, the community takes collective steps toward ensuring the survival and appreciation of the Majorero donkey for future generations.
