Antigua Demands Respect for Municipal Competences in Taxi Services

ANTIGUA, FUERTEVENTURA. April 19. (Taxi News) – The Town Hall of Antigua has formally requested the Cabildo of Fuerteventura to respect municipal competences in managing taxi services. This appeal follows the installation of new informational signage related to FEAGA 2026, which has stirred dissatisfaction among taxi professionals in the area.

The local government claims that the insular institution installed this signage without prior communication and failed to involve one of the legally constituted taxi associations in the municipality. Such actions have been deemed unilateral and lacking institutional coordination.

Concerns Over Taxi Sector Representation

Taxi operators in Antigua have expressed their discontent over the omission of one key association, raising concerns about the lack of recognition for their professional representation. In Antigua, there are two entities, each with its official communication channels.

The council emphasizes that the signage does not accurately reflect the reality of taxi service operations and insists on its immediate correction to avoid negative repercussions for the sector.

Formal Request for Rectification

The Town Hall of Antigua has submitted an official request for the replacement of the installed signage and has urged the Cabildo of Fuerteventura to adhere to municipal competences related to public transport services.

The local authority reiterates the importance of coordination among different administrative bodies to ensure the smooth operation of taxi services and prevent situations that could lead to confusion or grievances among industry professionals.
