Antigua Boosts Tourist Visits to the XXX Insular Craft Fair

Elevating Craftsmanship: Fuerteventura’s XXX Feria Insular de Artesanía 2017

The beautiful island of Fuerteventura is set to host an exciting event—the XXX Feria Insular de Artesanía Fuerteventura 2017. This vibrant fair will not only showcase the skills and creativity of over 225 talented artisans but will also offer an excellent opportunity for visitors to engage with local culture and crafts. With the aim of boosting sales for these artisans, the local government has devised a strategic plan to make access to the fair easier for tourists.

Transportation Initiative: Guaguas Turísticas

Recognizing the need for accessibility, the Ayuntamiento de Antigua is launching an initiative to provide tourist buses, known locally as guaguas turísticas, for the duration of the fair. The buses will operate based on the number of requests received from various key locations around the island, including Caleta de Fuste, Costa de Antigua, Corralejo, and Costa Calma. This thoughtful approach demonstrates the commitment to ensuring that the artisans’ hard work does not go unnoticed and can reach a broader audience.

Mayor Juan José Cazorla notes the positive feedback received from the previous year’s fair, where this initiative was first implemented. Artisans reported a significant increase in sales, showcasing the effectiveness of providing easy transport for visitors who may not otherwise attend the event. Learning from this success, the current edition promises even more robust support to artisans, reflecting a community commitment to fostering local talent.

Schedule and Routes

To make the event accessible, the tourist buses from Caleta de Fuste will begin their journey to the fair at 10:00 AM on both Saturday, May 13, and Sunday, May 14. The first stop will be at the Hotel Elba Sara, followed by a quick stop at the Hotel Barceló before making the return trip at 2:30 PM. The same route will operate in the evening, with departures scheduled for 4:00 PM and a return to the hotels at 8:00 PM.

For those in Costa de Antigua, departures will follow a similar schedule. Buses will leave from the Hotel Costa Tropical at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with return times also at 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM respectively. This consistency provides convenient options for visitors, empowering them to enjoy the fair at their own pace.

In Corralejo, the tourist bus will depart from the Baku parking lot at 10:00 AM, returning at 2:30 PM. Meanwhile, in Costa Calma, the journey will begin at 10:00 AM alongside the Tourist Office, with a scheduled return at 3:00 PM. By providing these structured routes, the local government is making it easier for tourists and locals alike to experience the rich array of craftsmanship presented at the fair.

Collaborating with Local Businesses

This initiative also emphasizes collaboration amongst various local businesses and tourist services. Hotels, shops, and information points across the island have actively participated in promoting the fair. Their combined efforts aim to draw in not just tourists but also locals, creating a bustling atmosphere that celebrates the unique heritage of Fuerteventura’s artisans. The engagement from the community highlights the importance of supporting local crafts, enabling artisans to showcase their talents on a wider stage.

Celebrating Local Crafts

Fuerteventura’s XXX Feria Insular de Artesanía is more than just a marketplace; it is a cultural celebration that represents the heart and soul of the island. It provides artisans the chance to display a diverse range of crafts, from intricate handmade jewelry to stunning textiles and pottery, each piece telling a story steeped in tradition and creativity.

Visitors to the fair will not only have the opportunity to purchase unique items but also to learn about the craftsmanship behind them. Engaging directly with artisans can be a transformative experience, one that highlights the value of supporting local industries and preserving cultural heritage.

This year’s fair promises a richer experience, with enhanced transport options, community collaboration, and a focus on local craftsmanship, making it an essential stop for anyone visiting Fuerteventura.
