Boosting Digital Leisure with the ‘Gamification Telecenters’ Project

Inauguration with “Gaming Day” Celebrations

Launching an exciting new initiative, the Cabildo has organized a series of public events dubbed “Gaming Day” aimed at young audiences, families, and video game enthusiasts. These gatherings will create a vibrant blend of competitive gaming and educational workshops featuring popular titles such as Clash Royale, Fortnite, Mario Kart, and FC24. Participants will have the chance to engage in hands-on activities, including 3D printing workshops, Pokémon Trading Card Game sessions, and Roblox Studio classes to design their own games. The first events will take place at the Cultural Center of Lajares on February 27, the Cultural Center of El Matorral on February 28, and the Youth House of Morro Jable on Saturday, March 7.

Each venue will be set up with distinct areas for tournaments, introductory workshops, retro gaming spaces, and interactive activities designed to entertain and engage participants. One of the key highlights will be “The Gamer’s Board,” a live trivia game featuring gaming-themed miming challenges, soundtrack guessing games, drawing contests, and bug detection in video game scenes. According to Carmen Alonso, the project is designed “to bring video game culture closer to the entire island, using telecentres as dynamic, modern spaces that foster creativity among our youth.”

An Inclusive and Expanding Project

Alonso emphasizes that the goal of this initiative is to ensure that every young person from Fuerteventura has the opportunity to compete, learn programming, dive into streaming, or simply connect with peers who share their passion for gaming in a safe and supportive environment. She passionately states, “We want every boy and girl in Fuerteventura, regardless of where they live, to have the chance to compete, learn programming, start streaming, or just share their love for video games in a secure and accompanied setting.” This inclusive approach aims to break down barriers and create a unified community centered around gaming.

The schedule for the Gaming Inter-Telecenters League, along with other related activities, will expand in the coming months, culminating in a grand island final that will recognize the participation and efforts of all telecentres. The New Technologies Department of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura expresses gratitude to the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, and La Oliva. Their support has been crucial in launching the initial Gaming Days, making this project accessible to the island’s youth population.
