A Colorful Weekend at the Wind Festival in Corralejo
Kite Enthusiasts Unite
Imagine a sky dotted with cometas (kites) of all shapes and sizes, dancing gracefully against winds that exceed 25 km/h. This vibrant spectacle marks the beginning of a weekend filled with thrills and excitement, as over 200 kite flyers from around the world converge in La Oliva, Fuerteventura, for an unforgettable celebration.
Celebrating Nature
This year’s Wind Festival holds an important focus on environmental preservation, emphasizing the protection of the beautiful natural surroundings of Las Dunas de Corralejo. Attendees are encouraged to participate in guided tours that educate on how to safeguard the region’s endemic flora. It’s a wonderful blend of fun and eco-consciousness, reminding everyone to appreciate the natural beauty that enhances this annual event.
A Family-Friendly Atmosphere
The Wind Festival is more than just a display of colorful kites soaring in the air; it offers a diverse array of activities designed for the entire family. From inflatable castles for the little ones to eclectic live performances, there’s something for everyone.
This year, the local band, Los Salvapantallas, will take the stage on Saturday at Avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, setting the mood for a lively evening. And if that’s not enough, Sunday promises a thrilling tribute performance to Coldplay, celebrating their ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour.
Adding to the excitement, the festival hosts a photography contest titled ‘Cometas en el objetivo’, encouraging visitors to capture the perfect kite moment.
Sustainable Transportation
With the influx of attendees, the festival encourages sustainability by providing a free shuttle service throughout the weekend. This initiative not only eases parking woes but also minimizes the environmental impact of the event. All participants are urged to make use of the guaguas (buses) to maintain the pristine condition of the surrounding areas.
Drones in the Sky
One of the standout highlights of this year’s festival will be a breathtaking night show featuring 200 drones. This stunning aerial display will create captivating visuals inspired by the unique elements of La Oliva. Scheduled to take place on Saturday at 21:30 in the Bahía de Corralejo, this event promises to be a mesmerizing highlight of the weekend.
Kiting Activities Galore
Friday kicked off the festivities with an inaugural flight at Las Grandes Playas de Corralejo, featuring both acrobatic and static kite demonstrations throughout the weekend, starting at 10:00 AM each day.
In addition to solo flights, kite battles, known as Rokaku fights, are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, commencing at 13:30. This competitive event draws participants eager to showcase their skills and engage with fellow kite enthusiasts, creating a delightful atmosphere of friendly rivalry.
In summary, the Wind Festival in Corralejo is poised to be a weekend filled with excitement, creativity, and community spirit. With its captivating array of activities for all ages, focus on sustainability, and exceptional entertainment, it offers a unique experience for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re a kite flyer or simply looking to enjoy a weekend outdoors, the Wind Festival is a must-visit for everyone.
