The 38th Edition of the Corralejo International Kite Festival: A Celebration of Color and Sustainability

The 38th edition of the Corralejo International Kite Festival has recently concluded, leaving behind a vivid tapestry of colors and an inspiring message about sustainability. This year, visitors flocked to the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park, a breathtaking venue where the sky was adorned with kites of all shapes and sizes. The festival not only showcased stunning aerial displays but also emphasized environmental respect and sustainability throughout its diverse program of activities.

Ideal Conditions for Kite Flying

One of the standout features of this year’s festival was the favorable weather. November brought with it delightful sunny skies and gentle winds, perfect for showcasing the talents of over 200 kite flyers from across Europe. Against the stunning backdrop of the Corralejo dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, participants engaged in both static and acrobatic kite demonstrations, delighting crowds for nearly a week.

Engaging Activities for the Whole Family

The festival was far more than just a series of kite displays; it served as a hub for family-friendly activities designed to engage all ages. From educational workshops about environmental conservation to fun-filled contests, there was something for everyone. Evenings were vibrant with concerts and a spectacular drone show featuring over 300 drones illuminating the night sky above Bahía de Corralejo. Both Friday and Saturday nights saw record crowds who gathered to enjoy these electrifying performances.

A Growing International Event

Raúl Rivero, the festival promoter, expressed his satisfaction with this year’s outcomes. “The public has once again responded with enthusiasm, and the beach was lively day after day,” he noted. Rivero highlighted the international appeal of the event, stating that kite flyers now earmark this festival on their calendars as a must-attend. “Corralejo is becoming a reference point across Europe, and this festival is already recognized among the most prestigious in the world,” he added.

Aerial Spectacles and Competitions

As the festival wrapped up, a final display of acrobatic kites amazed the crowd with their synchronization and breathtaking maneuvers. The event culminated with an eagerly anticipated Rokaku kite battle, where agile kites battled it out in a dynamic contest to see which could remain airborne while trying to bring down opponents. This captivating showdown kept spectators at the edge of their seats, culminating in a trophy ceremony that recognized the remarkable talents showcased throughout the event.

Organized with a Vision for Sustainability

The festival is organized by the Department of Tourism of the La Oliva City Council, with the valuable support of the Fuerteventura Tourism Council and the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias. Collaborative efforts from Binter and RIU Hotels and Resorts enhanced the festival experience, ensuring its message of sustainability was both poignant and far-reaching.

This year’s 38th International Kite Festival in Corralejo has done more than entertain; it has fostered a sense of community, respect for the environment, and international connection while leaving a colorful imprint across the sky of Fuerteventura. The event not only celebrated the artistry and joy of kite flying but also made a resounding impact on the attendees, encouraging a collective commitment to a sustainable future.
