The International Tourism Trade Fair, commonly known as FITUR, is gearing up for its 47th edition, set to take place from January 20 to 24, 2027, at IFEMA MADRID. This prestigious event will span five days, bringing together professionals from the tourism sector, industry enthusiasts, and the general public eager to explore diverse travel destinations. Notably, the weekend will open the doors to travelers, transforming the fair into a vibrant celebration of tourism.

Puerto Rico: The Partner Country

In a significant highlight for the 2027 edition, Puerto Rico has been designated as the Partner Country. This partnership promises to enrich the fair’s offerings, showcasing the unique culture, attractions, and tourism potential of this Caribbean gem. Attendees can expect a variety of presentations and cultural activities that will spotlight Puerto Rico’s diverse tourism landscape.

A Platform for Innovation and Sustainability

FITUR 2027 is not just about showcasing destinations; it is also a platform for strategic discussions and meetings among key players in the global tourism industry. The fair will emphasize priority projects focused on sustainability, infrastructure development, and community engagement. This commitment to responsible tourism aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly travel options and community-oriented experiences.

Expanding Horizons: More Halls and Knowledge Sharing

This year, FITUR will expand its footprint by adding two new halls, bringing the total to eleven. These halls will be dedicated to different geographic regions, including Europe, America, Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Spain. Additionally, a dedicated Travel Technology area, which saw a 50% growth in the previous edition, will showcase the latest technological advancements in the tourism sector.

The second edition of the Knowledge Hall will also return, reinforcing FITUR’s commitment to enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism industry. From January 20 to 22, experts from around the globe will gather to discuss the current state and future of tourism, share best practices, and explore innovative technological tools that can drive business growth.

Specialized Sections: Catering to Diverse Interests

FITUR 2027 will continue its tradition of specialization with various sections designed to address specific aspects of the tourism industry. These include:

  • FITURTechY: Organized in collaboration with the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH), this section will focus on technological innovations in hospitality.
  • FITUR Know-How & Export: In partnership with SEGITTUR and ICEX Spain Exports and Investments, this area will promote knowledge sharing and export opportunities.
  • FITUR LGBT+: This section will explore topics aimed at revitalizing tourism and promoting diversity under the theme “Love to Travel.”
  • FITUR Lingua: Collaborating with the Spanish Federation of Associations of Spanish Schools for Foreigners (FEDELE), this area will focus on language tourism.
  • FITUR Talent: Highlighting the importance of talent and training in tourism development.
  • FITUR Woman: This section will address the role of women in the tourism workforce.
  • FITUR Screen: Dedicated to bridging the gap between the tourism and audiovisual industries, in collaboration with SPAIN FILM COMMISSION.
  • FITUR 4all: Aiming to promote accessible and inclusive tourism for individuals with accessibility needs.
  • FITUR Cruises: Focusing on the booming cruise industry.
  • FITUR Sports: Addressing the growing market of sports tourism.

Reflecting on FITUR 2026

The previous edition of FITUR, held in January 2026, was a resounding success, featuring Mexico as the Partner Country. The event attracted over 255,000 visitors, marking a 12% increase in international attendance. With more than 10,000 companies from 161 countries participating, the fair showcased the global reach and influence of the tourism industry.

A standout feature of FITUR 2026 was the introduction of the Knowledge Hall (Hall 12), which became a hub for innovation and discussion on the future of tourism. This space facilitated critical conversations about the industry’s evolving landscape, emphasizing the importance of responsible and technological advancements.
