Fuerteventura at FITUR 2025: A Unified Image That Appeals to the Senses

Fuerteventura’s Grand Entrance at FITUR 2025

Fuerteventura has once again taken center stage at the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2025), showcasing an innovative and fresh tourism strategy that emphasizes living responsibly and embracing the island’s unique allure. Under the banner Fuerteventura, the island aims to captivate visitors by highlighting the diverse offerings from each municipality, inviting everyone to not just visit, but to truly feel the essence of the island.

Inaugural Highlights

The fair began with a vibrant inauguration of the Canary Islands stand, attended by prominent figures such as Lola García, President of the Cabildo, and Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Councillor. The event attracted numerous authorities, industry professionals, and business leaders, all gathering to celebrate last year’s successes and optimistic projections for 2025.

President García emphasized a commitment to quality over quantity in tourism. “We are here at FITUR to strengthen and solidify our destination, aiming for a sustainable tourism model that respects our lifestyle and natural environment,” she stated. With projections estimating around €3 billion in tourism revenue for 2024, the island is on track to enhance economic benefits for its residents.

A Fresh Perspective on Promotion

In her address, Councillor Figueroa highlighted the renewed image being presented to the world—one that champions quality and sustainability. The promotion aims to showcase Fuerteventura’s environmental and cultural heritage while encouraging outdoor activities. This fresh approach envisions a collaborative effort among all municipalities to position Fuerteventura as a competitive destination focused on connectivity and diversity.

Networking and Strategic Alliances

The Puerto de Turismo team engaged in extensive networking with key players, including hotel groups and tour operators like Meliá, Alpitour-Jumbotours, and Europlayas. Over the course of FITUR, 27 scheduled meetings aim to solidify strategic alliances, ensuring Fuerteventura remains an attractive choice for summertime and winter getaways in 2026.

Big Data Initiatives

In a parallel initiative at FITUR Tech, the ASOFUER association presented the Big Data Tourist Fuerteventura Destination project. Funded through the EU’s Next Generation funds, this ambitious program will aggregate and analyze significant tourist activity data. It will serve as an essential resource for businesses, public administration, and tourism professionals, providing insight into trends and forecasts critical for decision-making.

Celebrating Sustainable Tourism

A highlight of the fair was the 11th ReThink Tourism Awards, where the Igramar Morro Jable establishment received special recognition for its outstanding sustainability and hotel rehabilitation efforts in Spain. This accolade exemplifies the tourism model that Fuerteventura aspires to uphold.

Diverse Events Across Municipalities

The municipalities of Fuerteventura each presented unique offerings to attract both tourists and satisfy residents. For example, Pájara, represented by Mayor Alejandro Jorge, introduced the 44Cup Marina de Jandía slated for November, complementing existing events such as the Marlin Cup and the 37th World Championship of Windsurfing and Wingfoil.

La Oliva, under Mayor Isaí Blanco, rolled out an exciting lineup of events, including kite festivals and music festivals, showcasing the area’s vibrant cultural scene. With the 6th edition of Paladea seamlessly marrying sport and gastronomy, it exemplifies how Fuerteventura caters to diverse interests.

Antigua, led by Mayor Matías Peña, emphasized its ongoing commitment to family-friendly tourism. At FITUR, they launched a new visually attractive website aimed at improving the visitor experience, further enhancing the island’s appeal.

Puerto del Rosario, represented by Mayor David de Vera, focused on fortifying cruise tourism and ciudadania while promoting local gastronomy through events and festivals. The capital’s strategic infrastructure adds to its allure, making it a hub for visitors.

Similarly, Betancuria presented its historical attractions coupled with opera performances, while Tuineje showcased various sports and cultural festivals, demonstrating the island’s versatility in leisure offerings.

Impressive Tourism Statistics

Fuerteventura continues to boost its tourism trajectory, attracting 2,515,461 visitors in 2024—a 10.6% increase compared to the previous year. With connectivity set to improve by 14.8% this winter, the island is solidifying its status as a leading destination. Notably, Fuerteventura ranks among Spain’s top destinations regarding hotel revenue per available room (€90.6) for 2024, signifying its robust market position.

These developments at FITUR 2025 are not just about attracting more visitors; they’re about enhancing the experience for all and ensuring that the benefits of tourism are felt widely across the island’s communities. Through a commitment to sustainability and strategic innovation, Fuerteventura is poised to remain a beloved destination for years to come.
