Grimanesa González: “There Will Be No Camp in Tefía; It Will Be Held at the School Residence”

This year, the beautiful setting that once hosted the camp organized by FIMAPA during Semana Santa will come alive once again, with promises of a truly unique experience. The previous edition was met with overwhelming positivity, being deemed “one of the best-rated editions we’ve organized so far”. This reflects the commitment of FIMAPA to create enriching environments for the young minds of the community.

González, who is at the helm of the camp alongside collaborators Diego Ros (Yeye) and Dácil Saavedra, emphasized their efforts to innovate and adapt. Among the notable changes this year is an extended duration for the camp, running for an impressive sixteen weeks from June 22 to August 28. This move is a response to the community’s longstanding need for family reconciliation—an essential aspect for parents balancing work and family life.

Core Features of the Camp

The camp will retain some of its signature elements, including exciting excursions and overnight stays. In fact, FIMAPA is proud to be the only federation in the entire country promoting a camp under the corresponsables plan that allows for children and youth to sleep over, creating a deeper sense of community and family bonding.

This year, participants can look forward to weekly outings, inter-island trips, and a special closing event at El Garañón in Gran Canaria for children over the age of eight. Not only will these activities be fun and educational, but they also aim to enhance personal development and social skills among the campers.

Training for Families

FIMAPA has also announced a series of advancements in family support. The federation will facilitate three training sessions focused on parenting, corresponsibility, and the shared care of children. Two of these sessions are mandatory and will cover crucial topics such as the use of video games, technologies, and cooperative parenting in the home environment. This commitment to family education highlights the federation’s drive to empower parents, ensuring a holistic approach to child development.

Camp Cost and Accessibility

Presently, the Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario stands as the only municipality in Fuerteventura developing the Plan Corresponsables in collaboration with FIMAPA. Meanwhile, the Tuineje municipality has expressed interest but is still awaiting the green light to proceed. This plan not only aims to enhance the quality of life for families but also prioritizes those in greater need. González points out that, due to the overwhelming interest in the camp, “the plan, not FIMAPA or the Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario, will prioritize families in situations of higher vulnerability”.
