Discovering Spanish Cuisine in Chattanooga: Amada Tapas and Wine

Chattanooga, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, is not typically recognized for its Spanish cuisine. However, one local gem is changing that narrative. Amada Tapas and Wine has become a beacon of Spanish culinary culture in the Scenic City, offering a unique dining experience that transports patrons straight to the heart of Spain.

A Warm Welcome to La Roja

Amada Tapas and Wine played a special role in welcoming the Spanish national football team, affectionately known as La Roja, to Chattanooga. This opportunity not only highlighted the restaurant’s commitment to authentic Spanish cuisine but also showcased its ability to bring a piece of Spain to the local community.

Immerse Yourself in Spanish Culture

At Amada, guests can dive into a rich tapestry of flavors and traditions. The restaurant specializes in tapas, small dishes that encourage sharing and conversation—a hallmark of Spanish dining culture. Owner Amanda Trotter explains the origins of tapas, noting how they began as a practical solution to keep flies out of wine glasses. Patrons would place a slice of Iberian ham atop their drink, giving birth to the concept of tapas.

A Culinary Journey Inspired by Spain

Trotter’s passion for Spanish cuisine was ignited during her travels in Spain, where she fell in love with the culture and dining experience. She envisioned bringing that same warmth and vibrancy to Chattanooga. The menu at Amada features a wide array of dishes, including the iconic paella, a saffron-infused rice dish often topped with seafood or meats.

In addition to the food, Amada boasts an impressive selection of Iberian wines, sourced from regions in Spain and Portugal. This careful curation allows guests to pair their meals with the perfect wine, enhancing the overall dining experience.

A Taste of Spain for Team Spain

Ahead of Team Spain’s arrival, Amada was chosen to host a welcome party for the players. Trotter and her team prepared a delightful spread featuring red sangria, bacon-wrapped dates, and watermelon skewers. This event not only showcased the restaurant’s culinary offerings but also solidified its place in the community as a hub for cultural exchange.

A Small Business with Big Dreams

As a small business owner, Trotter never anticipated the recognition and opportunities that would come her way. Hosting interviews for prominent figures, including the president of The Sports & Events Corporation and CNN, has been a surreal experience for her.

“It feels serendipitous and intentional on our part,” Trotter reflects. “We’ve been doing this for almost four years, and there’s been an educational hump of having to teach people in Chattanooga what tapas are.”

Honoring Tradition While Creating New Experiences

Trotter’s dedication to educating the community about Spanish cuisine is evident in her approach to dining at Amada. She emphasizes the importance of sharing food and experiences, making every meal a celebration.

“Being able to host some of the most famous people in the world is such a huge honor,” she says. “It’s a privilege to be part of this city as a small business owner.”

Experience Authentic Spanish Cuisine

For those looking to explore authentic Spanish culture and cuisine, Amada Tapas and Wine offers an inviting atmosphere and a menu filled with delightful options. Whether you’re a seasoned tapas enthusiast or a newcomer eager to learn, the doors at Amada are open, ready to welcome you into a world of flavor and tradition.
