The story of Los Pinchitos began in 1975, during the vibrant festivities of San Antonio. Gloria recounts with nostalgia, “We started a small tavern in the garage of our house, using a plank over a stack of blocks.” This modest beginning blossomed into the beloved restaurant known for its traditional cuisine, becoming a must-visit destination for both tourists and the locals of Fuerteventura. The warm image of Carmen in the kitchen and Miguel at the bar became synonymous with the establishment, winning hearts and appetites alike.

Passing the Torches of Tradition

After the passing of her mother in 2004, Gloria took the helm of the family business alongside her husband, ensuring that the essence of traditional majorera cuisine remained intact. Gloria highlights the signature offerings: “We maintained our focus on goat meat, cabrito, and carne mechada.” However, with the recent passing of Miguel, the restaurant underwent a renovation, allowing Gloria to breathe new life into the space while honoring its deep-rooted history.

Reviving the Original Flavors

This renewed chapter at Los Pinchitos is marked by a nostalgic commitment to the original recipes that first defined the restaurant, particularly the beloved pinchitos de carne de cochino. Gloria shares the story of their origin: “When my parents arrived from El Aiún, they brought the recipe for marinated pork skewers. Over time, they shifted their focus to the more popular goat dishes, but we’re eager to bring back this traditional dish in honor of my parents.” Gloria and her husband, Pedro Antonio, embody a resilient spirit, eager to embrace the past while looking towards an exciting future.

Over the last four decades, Los Pinchitos has become a cornerstone of Fuerteventura’s culinary scene. The buzz surrounding the restaurant is palpable, with locals and tourists eagerly lining up to savor the dishes steeped in tradition. Gloria reflects on this enduring success, stating, “It’s been a lifetime spent among pots and pans.” This dedication was publicly acknowledged when Gloria expressed her gratitude for the Award for Restoration and Tourism. She referred to her parents as a “hardworking couple,” underscoring their immense contribution to the local gastronomy.

During the awards ceremony, Mayor Isaí Blanco emphasized the impact that entrepreneurs like Miguel and Carmen had on transforming the region during its nascent tourism period. “They helped lay the foundation for what we now celebrate—a thriving commercial street in Corralejo along Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen,” he remarked.
