Property Spotlight: The Viral Spanish-Style Stucco Home in Woodstock

This house doesn’t give much away from the curb, sitting on its quiet corner of the Woodstock neighborhood. But hidden behind a hedge, the arched wood front door, which is itself tucked into a double-arched stucco alcove and decorated with fanciful floral ironwork, hints at what’s inside: more arched doors, carved wood beams, shimmering tile, and a semicircle staircase unlike any we’ve seen in the city. No wonder this Spanish-style charmer went viral last weekend, on both social media and in real life—650 people showed up to its open house.

The home was built in 1928, at the height of the city’s fervor for Spanish Revival architecture. This influence is immediately evident in the main room, which combines living and dining spaces. Here, warm wood floors and thickly plastered walls create a cozy atmosphere, while a ceiling crisscrossed with dark beams adds a touch of rustic charm. The focal point of this room is undoubtedly the wood-burning fireplace, elegantly nestled into the sculptural sweep of the staircase. The fireplace features a fan-shaped spread of tile at the hearth and a striking metal hood, making it a conversation starter. According to the real estate agent, the fireplace vents “under the stairs and up the wall behind it,” a unique architectural detail that adds to the home’s character.

Continuing the exploration, an arched door leads to the kitchen, where more craftsmanship awaits. The inset cabinet doors are gently rounded to match the arch motif that runs throughout the home. Scalloped shelves separate the cooking area from the adjacent dining nook, creating a seamless flow. An accent wall covered in gleaming copper tile captures the light beautifully, harmonizing with the red countertops and rust-colored floors. A clever design choice is the refrigerator, which is tucked into an alcove, cleverly concealed from certain angles, sparking discussions among visitors.

Spanning 1,480 square feet across two floors, this home offers a generous layout for a century-old bungalow. It features a bathroom on both levels, with the main floor housing a charming powder room adorned with pretty sky-blue floor tiles. The upstairs full bath, also tiled, is shared by both bedrooms. Much of the historic detail continues upstairs, including the wood floors and crystal doorknobs, alongside the signature ceiling beams that echo the craftsmanship found below.

As if the house’s overflowing charm wasn’t enough, it also sits on a large, grassy corner lot, providing ample outdoor space for relaxation or gardening. The property includes an oversized, attached garage, conveniently accessed through the kitchen. This garage presents an excellent opportunity for new owners to transform it into a studio or workshop, allowing for personal touches and creative endeavors.
