Fostering Inclusion through Employment: ‘El Cabildo, Te Informa 2025’

In a significant move towards enhancing social inclusion in Fuerteventura, the Cabildo has launched the employment plan ‘El Cabildo, te informa 2025’. This initiative is designed to support the integration of individuals with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities into the workforce, ensuring they have equal opportunities to participate in society.

Objectives of the Initiative

At the heart of this initiative is the commitment to not only advance workplace inclusivity but also to bridge the gap between the administration and the community. One of the primary goals is to streamline public service, thereby reducing response times and improving accessibility to electronic services. With this plan, the Cabildo aims to create a more welcoming environment where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access essential services without barriers.

Key Personnel and Roles

The employment plan will see the hiring of nine individuals, which includes a specialized technician who will oversee the project’s coordination. Additionally, seven auxiliary personnel with recognized disabilities will join as information assistants, along with an administrative employee. These new hires will provide services in various offices, including those in Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Morro Jable, and Corralejo, as well as at the Office of Agricultural Extension in Gran Tarajal.

The roles of the auxiliaries will encompass various tasks such as public interaction, document management, digital archiving, report transcription, and utilization of necessary software tools. This multifaceted approach not only empowers the newly hired individuals but also enhances the quality of public services offered.

Project Timeline and Budget

The project is set to run for a span of 12 months, commencing from February 17, 2025, and concluding on February 16, 2026. The initiative is backed by a budget of €292,428.13, a considerable sum co-financed by both the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (Fdcan).

Collaborative Efforts with Local Organizations

During the launch event, President Lola García and Employment Councillor Nuria Cabrera engaged in meaningful discussions with representatives from various third-sector associations. These included ASOMASAMEN, ADIVIA, ADISFUER, Play and Train, and the Association for Integral Inclusion and Development of People with Functional Diversity in Fuerteventura. The Cabildo expressed a desire to continue fostering partnerships that encourage employment opportunities for groups with specific needs, inviting these organizations to actively participate in shaping future initiatives.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: The PFAE Initiative

On a related note, the event also featured a healthy breakfast provided by the PFAE ‘Fuerteventura Destino con Sabor’. This is part of one of five Vocational Training Workshops (PFAEs) currently running under the Cabildo’s active employment policies. This initiative, funded by the Cabildo through resources from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and the Canarian Employment Service (SCE), exemplifies a commitment not only to employment but also to a holistic approach to well-being within the community.

Vision for the Future

Both President García and Councillor Cabrera shared their vision for the future, emphasizing the importance of continuing to develop employment plans that offer real opportunities to those who need them the most. With aspirations to exceed benefiting more than 300 individuals through various employment and training initiatives, the Cabildo remains committed to innovative projects in key sectors throughout the island.

Through ‘El Cabildo, te informa 2025’, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura is setting a noteworthy example of how local governance can play a crucial role in promoting inclusivity, enhancing community ties, and improving the quality of service for all citizens. This landmark employment plan not only highlights the importance of supporting vulnerable groups but also amplifies the collective efforts needed to ensure everyone has a stake in the community’s growth and development.
