Celebrating Culture and Community: Semana Santa 2026 in El Cotillo

A Vibrant Start to Holy Week

The Ayuntamiento de La Oliva, through its dedicated Concejalía de Cultura led by David Hernández, has unveiled an exciting cultural program for Semana Santa 2026. Kicking off the festivities, the Consistorio, in collaboration with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Analogic Fundation, announces the much-anticipated cultural poster for the Festival SOCO, set to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of April. This year marks the 15th edition of the festival, which will be hosted in the charming Plaza Vieja of El Cotillo, bringing together a diverse array of alternative artists from the Canary Islands. The festival has grown significantly, earning acclaim both locally and beyond the shores of this beautiful island.

A Showcase of Musical Talent

Festival SOCO is all set to dazzle attendees with an eclectic lineup of musical talents. On the 2nd of April, music lovers can enjoy performances from renowned acts such as DJ Skull, Bio, and Loopn Loompa, alongside rising stars like Tamar Waters, Shusko, Jeri, and Alvarito. The following day, the excitement continues with captivating performances by Amakó, Don Virgilio, Chocolate Sexy, and many more, including Salomon Moore, Barrabass Sounds Sistem, and Michael Maxoh on the 3rd of April. Each day promises an exhilarating blend of genres that caters to various tastes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Community and Family Engagement

El Cotillo’s mayor, Isaí Blanco, expresses the essence of the event: “Everyone knows that Semana Santa is celebrated in El Cotillo. Good music, activities, and workshops will make for a weekend filled with family-friendly fun during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of April.” This sentiment captures the festival’s spirit, where community engagement and cultural appreciation take center stage.

Cultural Councillor David Hernández added to this excitement, saying: “We warmly invite everyone to join us in El Cotillo this year. The Festival SOCO will take place on Thursday and Friday, followed by the Marea Cultural Festival on Saturday.” This provides an immersive experience, allowing participants to not only enjoy live performances but also engage in enriching workshops. The programming includes morning children’s activities, leading into the afternoon with an African music and dance workshop, and culminating in a festive evening with a lively verbena.

A Rich Cultural Experience

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s councillor for culture, Rayco León, emphasized the importance of this celebration, stating: “Semana Santa in El Cotillo is a hallmark of community and culture. With 15 years of experience, Analogic Fundation has successfully developed the SOCO Festival, now incorporating not just local talents from Fuerteventura but also artists from other islands, adding an element of excitement to this already vibrant celebration.” León’s passionate words encourage everyone to partake in this cultural gathering, reinforcing the commitment of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to support such initiatives.

Activities for Everyone

In addition to the music and performances, the Marea Cultural Festival scheduled for Saturday, April 4th, includes a plethora of family-oriented activities. Starting at 11:00 AM, children can partake in a range of engaging workshops, games, and music. As the day progresses, a special educational workshop in African dance and percussion will be held at 18:00, leading into the evening when the verbena kicks off at 20:00. Attendees can look forward to performances from various groups such as La Banda del Cuco, Tribu – G Tributo a Hombres G, Nuevo Klan, Grupo Arena, and Grupo Kandela.

With so many events lined up, Semana Santa 2026 in El Cotillo promises to be a heartwarming and memorable celebration, showcasing the vibrant spirit and cultural richness of this captivating island community.
