Campaign for Rabies Vaccination and Dog Identification Announced in Puerto del Rosario
The Town Hall of Puerto del Rosario, led by the Department of Animal Welfare, is set to kick off the Rabies Vaccination and Dog Identification Campaign 2026 during the months of May and June. This initiative is aimed at making essential health services more accessible for pets and ensuring the public can easily comply with guidelines for the protection and sanitary control of animals.
Essential Health Services for Animals
The campaign will provide two critical services: rabies vaccinations and microchip identification for dogs that haven’t yet been registered. Microchipping plays a vital role in Pet identification, making it easier to reunite lost animals with their families. This effort also aligns with current municipal regulations, allowing officials to update the local pet census effectively.
Accessibility of Services Across the Community
Various locations have been designated throughout the municipality to facilitate this campaign, including cultural centers and municipal spaces. Residents in areas such as Tefía, Puerto Lajas, La Asomada, Ampuyenta, El Matorral, Guisguey, Casillas del Ángel, Llanos de la Concepción, El Time, Tetir, La Matilla, and Puerto del Rosario can easily access these essential services.
Community Engagement and Responsible Pet Ownership
The Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, has emphasized the significance of bringing these initiatives closer to different residential areas within the municipality. “We are talking about an action that is fundamentally important for both public health and animal welfare. We want to make it easier for residents to meet their health obligations while promoting responsible coexistence with our animals,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, Tacoremi Gutiérrez, the Councilor for Animal Welfare, highlighted the importance of providing these services in a way that is convenient and accessible. “This campaign allows us to act closely and accessibly in different neighborhoods, which is particularly crucial in a large municipality like Puerto del Rosario,” she explained. Furthermore, she pointed out that microchip identification is key for locating lost pets and ensuring responsible ownership.
Compliance with Legal Requirements
It is essential to note that both the identification and vaccination of pets are mandated by law. Failure to comply may lead to minor or serious infractions, with fines ranging from €500 to €50,000 depending on the severity of the violation. This underlines the importance of participation in the campaign.
Participation Guidelines
Residents wishing to participate in the campaign must present their DNI or proof of residence, along with their pet’s health booklet. This requirement ensures that only local residents benefit from the services provided.
Affordable Rates for Essential Services
The fees for participation have been set at €30, which covers both the vaccination and the microchip implantation. Alternatively, the rabies vaccination alone is available for €10. This pricing ensures that all pet owners can affordable access to these essential health services for their animals.
This campaign represents a significant step toward enhancing public health and animal welfare within the community, providing vital services to ensure responsible pet ownership and care.
