Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura, the Information and Addiction Prevention Service (SIPA) of the Cabildo and the Herbania Sports Club have presented the third challenge “Against Smoke, Get Wet”, a sports and educational initiative that seeks to raise awareness about the risks of tobacco and promote healthy lifestyle habits. The challenge is to complete twelve uninterrupted hours of swimming with the aim of surpassing the mark reached in the previous edition, when nearly two hundred people covered a total of 167 kilometers. The initiative also has new awareness activities this year. Among them, a digital escape room on the use of vapers stands out, promoted by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, to learn in a dynamic and participatory way about the risks associated with these devices. Likewise, the Canarian Health Service will develop tobacco and vape prevention workshops through the island health area. The president of the AECC in Fuerteventura, Isabel Laucirica, highlighted the sporting and educational value of this activity, underlining the importance of making visible the harmful effects of tobacco and new electronic devices, especially among the young population and in the sporting field. For their part, the president of the Fuerteventura Cabildo, Lola García, and the counselor of Social Action, Víctor Alonso, valued the institutional collaboration in this initiative and defended the importance of continuing to promote actions aimed at achieving a smoke-free generation. The councilor for Public Health of Puerto del Rosario, Rosa Rodríguez, and the president of the Herbania Sports Club, Inma Díaz, also participated in the event, who encouraged citizens to join the challenge and continue promoting healthy habits. During the presentation, the manifesto of the Tobacco-Free Movement Alliance was also read, an initiative that seeks to advance towards the first European tobacco-free generation by 2030.
