Enhancing Cleanliness in La Oliva: A New Approach for 2025

The Municipality of La Oliva is taking significant steps to improve its cleanliness and maintenance services. Thanks to a new contract initiated by the Department of Street Cleaning, the number of cleaning operatives will soar from 39 to 130 by the end of 2025. This ambitious overhaul promises not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the municipality but also to meet the growing demands of its residents and visitors.

A Stronger Workforce

The cornerstone of this new initiative is the substantial increase in human resources designated for street cleaning duties. With more operatives in the field, La Oliva aims to bolster its cleanliness standards, ensuring that public spaces are well-maintained. This expansion is a direct response to community requests for improved services, indicating that local voices are being heard and prioritized.

Waste Collection Improvements

One of the standout features of this contract is the enhancement of waste collection services. Given the increasing volume of waste generated by both residents and tourists, the municipality plans to double its collection frequency. Starting in 2025, waste will be collected six times a week, as opposed to the current three. Areas like Corralejo and El Cotillo, which attract large crowds, will be serviced daily, ensuring that trash does not accumulate and that the atmosphere remains pleasant for everyone.

Focus on Beach Cleanliness

With its picturesque coastline and stunning beaches, La Oliva recognizes the importance of preserving its natural spaces. As part of the new contract, a dedicated team of six operatives will be assigned to beach cleaning duties. This initiative will help maintain the pristine condition of the beaches, aligning with the municipality’s commitment to environmental preservation and creating a welcoming environment for both residents and tourists alike.

Advanced Machinery for Efficient Service

To support the expanded workforce, La Oliva will introduce various pieces of machinery designed to enhance operational efficiency. Among the new additions are five waste collection trucks, including a smaller truck specifically for managing waste in commercial zones during the late afternoons. This focused approach aims to minimize disruption while effectively addressing waste issues.

Other machinery upgrades include two smaller-tonnage trucks for managing bulky items and litter bins, as well as an array of specialized equipment: three street sweepers, three high-pressure cleaners, a tractor with a screening device, a manual screener, a washing vehicle for containers, and a street watering truck. The introduction of these new machines is expected to streamline cleaning processes and improve overall service quality.

Community-Centric Response to Demand

Rubén González, the Councillor for Street Cleaning, has emphasized the importance of this initiative in fulfilling a long-standing demand from the community. By stating that this budget will “triple the service offered to date,” González conveys a strong commitment to not just current cleaning needs, but also to anticipating future growth in the number of residents and businesses in La Oliva.

This proactive approach ensures that as La Oliva continues to develop, its cleanliness and environmental standards will remain a top priority, building a cleaner and more sustainable community for all.
