Cabildo Approves Revised Strategic Plan for SME and Entrepreneur Support

As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, the regional government is enhancing its support for local entrepreneurs.

On March 27, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura unanimously approved modifications to the Strategic Plan for Public Subsidies focused on Economic and Employment Promotion. This initiative aims to further bolster financial assistance for entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) on the island.

Lola García, the island’s president, emphasized that strengthening the local business environment is a central priority for the Cabildo. She stated, “We have established a clear strategy to support self-employed workers and SMEs, recognizing their vital role in our economy.”

Nuria Cabrera, the Minister of Economic Promotion, highlighted the necessity of providing resources and tools geared toward empowering SMEs and self-employed individuals. She noted that this strategic approach aims to translate into more robust companies and improved job quality across the island.

The updated plan allocates €65,000 to the agreement with the Association of Self-Employed Workers of the Canary Islands. This funding will streamline administrative processes and facilitate the acquisition of necessary permits for new businesses and infrastructure projects, ultimately reducing bureaucracy and associated costs.

Additionally, over €250,000 will be directed to the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce to support various initiatives, including the Antena Cameral agreement, Nursery 4.0, and a Business Single Window. Financial backing is also provided to the Association of Tax Advisors of the Canary Islands, aimed at promoting incentives for startups and enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Fuerteventura. This includes the establishment of coworking spaces and business accelerators.

The Cabildo has also increased funding for Fuerteventura Fashion Week and the “We Are Fuerteventura/Wir Sind Fuerteventura” program, which focuses on language training to enhance job placement opportunities.

Furthermore, support for new business initiatives is being reinforced with increased subsidies aimed at covering operational expenses. The Department of Economic Promotion continues to explore additional competitive subsidy lines to further stimulate economic growth.

This comprehensive support reflects Fuerteventura’s commitment to fostering a dynamic business landscape that invites both local and international investment.
