Improvement Works on FV-10 Road: Enhancing Safety and Functionality in Lajares
Recent Developments
Sergio Lloret López, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, alongside First Vice President Lola García and Second Vice President Claudio Gutiérrez, has been actively overseeing critical road improvements in the locality of Lajares. These improvements are part of a larger effort to enhance the infrastructure across the island. The ongoing works on the FV-10 road have become a focal point, and the details surrounding them highlight their importance to the community.
Project Overview
The current roadway enhancements are taking place along a crucial stretch of the FV-10, specifically from the roundabout leading into Lajares to the settlement of El Roque. Spanning from kilometer markers 30.500 to 35.350, the works began on July 24 and are expected to be completed by mid-January of the upcoming year. This project is backed by a budget of 977,127 euros sourced from the Development Funds of the Canary Islands (FDCAN).
Contractor Engagement
The project has been assigned to a collective known as UTE Construcciones Rodríguez Ramírez-Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas (CORORASA-TECOPSA). This partnership has been instrumental in facilitating not just the surface improvements but also significant drainage enhancements, which address long-standing issues affecting both safety and usability.
Addressing Safety Concerns
During his visit, President Lloret underscored the necessity of the project, emphasizing the imperative nature of ensuring safety on the roadway. He pointed out that the former drainage issues had led to hazardous conditions that affected both the safety and operability of the road. The improvements being made aim to rectify these concerns, guaranteeing that the road can confidently accommodate the daily traffic of residents and visitors.
Navigating Construction Challenges
While the enhancements are vital, they have not come without complications. Lloret acknowledged that the commencement of construction posed some challenges, particularly due to the complex detours that had to be established. Despite these initial inconveniences, he reaffirmed that such projects are necessary for the overall improvement of Fuerteventura’s transportation network.
Current Progress and Upcoming Work
As of now, excavation for drainage systems in the Barranco de Lajares is at a critical stage. The team is finalizing the installation of auxiliary structures, preparing for load testing, and enhancing the water course both upstream and downstream. Simultaneously, work is underway to rehabilitate the road margins from El Roque to the diversion point, setting the stage for the upcoming asphalt laying, which is anticipated to kick off next week.
Signage Updates
In addition to structural improvements, the team has also updated the vertical signage at the Lajares roundabout, ensuring that drivers have clear and concise information as they navigate through the area. This is part of an effort to increase awareness and safety for all road users during and after construction.
By prioritizing infrastructure improvements like the FV-10 enhancements, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura is taking significant steps toward elevating safety standards and ensuring the reliability of road networks that serve the local population. The collaboration with experienced contractors and the allocation of essential funding are paving the way for a safer and more functional transportation framework in Fuerteventura.
